Coaches are filing into the Sullivan Center at Iolani, they get down to business at 1 p.m. I am not going to quote coaches as they fight for their wrestlers, but I will be updating seeds as they are determined and pointing out when spots are contested.
Not quite what sure to expect, but if Joshua Terao, above, draws any discussion it will most certainly be raves and nothing but. That is one freaky pin he put on Crimmins yesterday.
Four champs go first, followed by runner up and third place and so on. In the event of a tie in votes, cards will be drawn.
This goes kind of fast when it is clear-cut, I am going to try to get top 10 in here at least. Obviously, these are not official until the HHSAA released them. I will definitely get the top four.

Coaches question it, but it’s the rules. The reasoning is that a team with a great wrestler should not be robbed of a chance to get team points for a pin. So the byes have to be random throughout via a card draw.They are going to have to redo the whole bracket after they draw the byes.

Thanks, ILH, I am already thinking of next year. Maybe take a picture of the brackets as they do them (if I can still get in) and maybe have a coach (or someone who knows wrestling) with me to provide thoughts. That, and learning to type faster, of course.
Campbell and Punahou had separate voting representative for the boys and the girls. The whole process took about four hours, with the only break lasting about five minutes. They stayed on task throughout, I can’t imagine it being any shorter.
The wrestling community should be quite proud. Our web geniuses report that within the 12 hours that I did it, it had outperformed anything we have done on this site except the state football championship game between Mililani and Punahou. They mentioned that if you look at just numbers and not the reasons why (doing something nobody else is doing and doing it for the first time), you would have to conclude that the sport draws more interest than anything other than football.
I had an idea it would be popular, but I had no idea how popular. Now I guess I have to beg my way into seeding meetings for all the sports, if I can.
Jerry! Next year, I would like to help you with your coverage. What you are doing for this sport is outstanding. These kids put their whole life on hold just for a chance at a state title. Thank you for recognizing them. I think I know most of the girls and boys wrestlers, and how the process works. lmk.

I’m thinking next year instead of rankings we can do a proper poll if enough people return and are willing to do the work required to vote every week.
Great work Jerry!!!! Wow. Didn’t realize that wrestling would have the second biggest draw in the state after football. I’ve always thought it was baseball here in the islands. Makes me wonder now how many peeps came on this blog for the seeding now/what kind of crowd and how early you would need to get to the Blaisdell for good seats on Saturday.
Polls would be great. Also finding a way to rank the teams as well would be nice in order to support the team aspect better.

There is both Team and Individual ranking. Please respond positively and not be negative when all are trying to build more interest in a great sport. Keep the sport strong and stop looking for negatives.
