Super soph Morgan Cheli leads Archbishop Mitty over Maryknoll

Sophomore Morgan Cheli poured in 20 points, including three 3-pointers, as powerhouse Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) overwhelmed Maryknoll, 68-31, at the ‘Iolani Classic on Thursday.

Siena Gutadauro added 10 points while Makayla Moore and Maya Hernandez tallied nine each. Maryknoll was within 14-8 after one quarter, but the Monarchs from San Jose) went on a 31-3 run in the second quarter.

Ciera Tugade-Agasiva led the Spartans with 12 points and Lilly Koki scored nine.


Archbishop Mitty is ranked No. 7 nationally. Seven players have Division I college scholarship offers.

Archbishop Mitty will battle ‘Iolani in a semifinal on Friday, 8 p.m. Salesian (Calif.) and Centennial (Nev.) meet in the 6:30 p.m. semifinal.

‘Iolani 78, Hawaii Baptist 34

Jovi Lefotu pumped in 14 points and Haylie-Anne Ohta tallied 13 as the host Raiders raced to a quarterfinal win. Abby Tanaka, Jaety Mandaquit and Callie Pieper chipped in 11 points apiece. Mandaquit, a freshman, had a team-high three trifectas from the arc.


Emi Wade scored 11 points and Joey Lin added 10 for the Eagles, a contender for the ILH Division II title.

Centennial (Nev.) 69, Lahainaluna 36

Danae Powell scored 15 points, Kennedy Lee 14 and Kaniya Boyd 13 as Nevada powerhouse Centennial won its opening-round game. Charlene Ohiaeri added eight points for the six-time Nevada state champions.

Ledjan Pahukoa led Lahainaluna with 11 points, splashing three 3-pointers. Taylor Eldredge added nine points for the Lunas. Eldredge and Pahukoa were Star-Advertiser all-state Fab 15 selections two seasons ago while Eldredge was a sophomore, and Pahuku as a freshman at King Kekaulike.

Salesian (Calif.) 80, Kamehameha 39


Silivia Fonongaloa scored 16 points, Kaylie Edge had 11 and Satchel Ford added 10 as Salesian advanced to the semifinal round. Georgia Pouraras added nine points and Ariel Anderson tallied eight.

Mackenzie Alapai led the Warriors with 12 points. Mikylah Labanon and Kya Kanoho added seven points each.
