On Thursday and Friday, Hawaii Prep World will run a series of snippets focusing on eight players we dub as Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Unsung Scrappers.”
One player from each of the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s eight teams involved in this weekend’s Division I quarterfinals were chosen by their head coaches.
FOURTH IN A SERIES
MOANALUA’S HUAKA‘I SELF
>> Position: Defensive lineman
>> Grade: Senior
>> Height: 5 feet 9
>> Weight: 193 pounds
>> Jersey number: 52
Na Menehune head coach Savai‘i Eselu on Huaka‘i Self:
“Huaka‘i is definitely a scrapper for us on the D-line. He always gets it done at practice and in games. He’s willing to play anywhere. We’ve had our share of injuries and have had to put him everywhere where we are thin. He never gives up and has that dogged mentality, a grinder. He never gives us an attitude and is always positive. He’s helped us out on the O-line, where we’ve been very thin. He has trickled in a bit at linebacker, and we may even use him at running back in certain packages.”
As Huakai’s Father I am very proud of him and he will do Awesome during the playoffs and give 200% while playing on the field and his Academics off the field
I am very proud of my grandson Huakai Self. He is considerate of others and a great motivator both on and off the field. I know he will do great things in the upcoming games and in his future.
I’m very proud of my son Huaka’i Self! He has come a long way. Although I am off island. I am proud of him giving his all! Never Give Up! Do your best in all that you do!
