Big props to Kauai, St. Francis and Damien for agreeing to step up and play D1. Iolani and Lahaina should be in the D1 tournament.

The format at the top / open should be OIA champ vs ILH champ aka “Prep Bowl”.. the OIA open division teams (Red and Blue Conference) teams should play a longer season one filled with 3-4 cross divisional games. And the top 2 from each side play in a playoff. The winner gets ILH champion. That way there’s a longer season where every game matters and there’s no watered down OIA playoffs with blowouts in the first two rounds.

  2. Choloropicrin October 23, 2017 8:12 pm

If not make “Bowl” games to give kids more playing time. I’d love to see a Kapolei vs Punahou, Moanalua vs Damien, St. Francis vs Leilehua or a Waianae vs Kamehameha

The championship will be determined by the ILH vs OIA champ

  3. TooMeke October 23, 2017 8:25 pm

Gonna be an ALL-OIA final this year! Big Red and Milz rematch.

No way in hell we ever going to be in D1. Every year, Our boys are young; we are not as big and skilled as most teams but what we do best is improve. Every day we do that. (Reading what you said previously about us) Plus, us beating the D1 teams in our league every year? No. We don’t always beat them. Maui and Baldwin only compete in the D1 tourney not open. Don’t you even compare us to Iolani or any other team. We’re not ready for D1.

Your opinion doesn’t matter since it’s not your choice to make dude.

Well that claim is true. They are the D2 champs. So hateful aren’t you? Have some respect man.

    RR4LIFE
Enjoy football man not hate. Arguing with them is not going to get you anywhere; only making it worse.

  8. Choloropicrin October 23, 2017 11:24 pm

You can tell that Lahainaluna is D2, reading these comments affirms that they have small mans syndrome. If you look at it on the flip side ( rather than being defensive) people are noticing that you guys put out a competitive team, so why not challenge yourself and move up?Iolani did and got smashed, played in D1 tourney last year and was competitive against the field. But no, all I hear is “we’re young” or “we barely beat MIL D1 teams”…keep yourself in a small pond and not grow and play victim like everyone is against the Luna’s. Knuckleheads people are taking notice that you guys field competitive teams. Youth will one day turn into veterans.

At the end of the day, like someone mentioned earlier the real champs are Open division. The participation medals are for everyone else.

  9. Choloropicrin October 23, 2017 11:58 pm

    The Luna’s got 16 linemen over 200 pounds (9 over 240, 1 over 300) 61 total players on roster.

Iolani on the other hand has 4 linemen over 200 pounds (2 over 240) the other 2; 204 and 206. 37 players on roster.

Tell me why the Luna’s cannot compete with the rest of the D1 (not open) tourney field? They have size. And from what I seen in the past years is that they have skill players. Their rushing attack is a well oiled machine reminding me of Navy. 16 players over 200 pounds with a roster of 60+…a whopping 14-24 more players than the other teams. Again big fish in little pond mentality.

Atleast Iolani went up with the big 3 in the ILH. They didn’t beat’em but competed and ultimately competed with the D1 field last year. Beating Campbell and giving Mililani a competitive game.

    Here’s the other D2 field…according to SL.

    Waipahu has 12 linemen over 200 pounds (5 over 240, 1 over 300) 47 total players.

Pearl City has 14 linemen over 200 pounds (11 over 240) 53 total players.

    Konaweana has 8 linemen over 200 pounds (4 over 240, 1 over 300) 47 total players.

  10. Choloropicrin October 24, 2017 12:03 am

Again no one hating, it’s just that people want to see the best play the best. And if that’s at D1 so be it. A Lahainaluna vs St. Francis would have been a fun matchup. Or Lahainaluna vs Hilo.

On a side note, the best defensive player in the PAC12 attended Lahainaluna? Right?

  11. Choloropicrin October 24, 2017 12:24 am

And y’all beat Maui twice this year, Maui who’s bound for the D1 tournament…32-13 and 24-17.

    Maui who has 16 linemen over 200 pounds (8 over 240, 1 over 300) 54 total players.

    And beat Baldwin twice… 28-20 and 17-14

    Baldwin 11 linemen over 200 (6 over 240 and 1 over 300) 56 total players.

The Luna’s got more players than the two D1 teams and pretty much matches up in size with them, if not bigger. Again all I hear is excuses on why you can compete with D1. You guys could be the best but with the “sell yourself short” mentality you’ll be the king of Maui and that’s about it.

    Other D1 teams…

    Kauai 10 linemen over 200 pounds (3 over 240, 1 over 300) 45 total players.

Hilo no height and weight on SL…38 players with numbers / 46 on roster.

If you break it down regarding roster size, Luna’s clearly got more players than all D2 and D1 teams. And terms of physical size they match up well with D1 Teams and only Pearl City (if they make it in) in D2. But all we hear are excuses from these fans. If you’re a fan, you’d wanna see your team play against the best and if D1 is that level, thats cool.

  12. BlameSomeoneElse October 24, 2017 12:30 am

@Coach C, you remember when the ILH played a 10 game schedule and the OIA was already in their playoffs? Yeah, I thought about this before posting. You would rather watch the power teams from the OIA constantly beat up on the lesser OIA teams rather than seeing a competitive match up week in and week out. I would much rather see the top 3 ILH and top 6 OIA play interleague, but the good ole’ boy network refuses to acknowledge these aren’t the 1970s and 1980s anymore, and great competition, no matter from what school makes for a great ball game, and most likely games high school football fans want to see. I would love to see a team like Kahuku play St. Louis, Kamehameha, Punahou, Mililani and Waianae on a weekly basis.

  13. Choloropicrin October 24, 2017 12:36 am

And here is the the potential ILH team in the D1 tourney. Again the Luna’s got more players on roster and matches up in terms of size. Atleast iolani had reasons to stay D2 all those years, because of small rosters.

    St Francis has 14 inemen over 200 pounds (6 over 240, 1 over 300) 38 total players

    Damien 15 linemen over 200 pounds (7 over 240, 1 over 300) 46 total players on roster.

  14. Choloropicrin October 24, 2017 12:39 am

I would rather watch good football every week, rather than a watered down OIA playoffs.

As I stated early, let the OIA play 10 games (4 interdivisional games between Red div and Blue Div) and the top 2 from each division play in the OIA playoff to decide who plays the ILH champ. Longer season with more on the line for the OIA. Better than watching the first round and quarter finals of the OIA playoffs

  15. The Rim October 24, 2017 5:34 am

All three divisions will have competitive games that will be worth watching on November 18th, and by the way @choloropicrin, I’ll take a 6’1 195# athletic football player any day over a 5’8 320#.

  16. TooMeke October 24, 2017 7:07 am

Hyn – where you at???? Cmon – I gotta pay up… Stupid Puns OC (HC’s son) killed those Senior’s year. How do you have an OC that never played a down of football in his life???

    Regardless – let’s go Hyn… details. Shoots!

  17. ILH October 24, 2017 8:12 am

    -EMZ-

With all due respect, the game aint on Oahu where the opponent is from so yes its considered a home game for you guys and all the advantages that come with not having to travel, lug your team, equipment, support staff and all the other nightmarish logistical things that come with travelling to another island to play, I am sure the Lunas are very aware of these things. Savor it because the next round will mean travelling once again for you guys so enjoy the respite if only for a moment.

I googled the Luna Stadium, it is beautiful, I hope to see the Lunas play there one day. I enjoy watching their disciplined aggressive play and think they do a good job utilizing the talent they have. Kudos to the coaches. But, according to Google- Luna Stadium – 3000 ish capacity, War Memorial- 20,000 capacity. I can understand why they would want to have it there now. $$$$ more seats more money.

I can only hope that you are wrong in your opinion, which it is, that no other schools will turn out to watch the game. I have plenty Ohana on Maui and they go to the games to cheer any Maui team especially when its a chance to stick it to an Oahu team. I am pretty sure there will be plenty Maui pride at the game. LOL, my cousins are getting ready for tailgate and invited me to fly up and watch the game with them, so that I can watch Iolani get handed their okole and they not even Luna alumni.

I am in agreement, I can see you guys in D1 with some other D2 teams, only if they push up the Big Guys into the Open.

  18. Coach C October 24, 2017 8:30 am

Lol, recruit dis, you ask for proof then go “eh dat was 2 years ago” then you use Nawahine? Ok. Nawahine is a running back, Punahou passes the ball and have teetai as OC. Punahou and Kamehameha is a punching bag for St.Louis. Have been for the last 50 years. Iolani was tired of it so left for D2. So Nawahine is the State rushing leader and will hit 1100 yards. He has a better chance at colleges because of this move. Kaula Kaniho left Kamehameha and was DPOY for Kahuku. He is a true freshman at Boise, starts and score his first D1 NCAA defensive td. Aloha Gilman started for Navy as a freshman and will now play for Notre Dame. He transfered to Kahuku from Kam. No DE needed because these kids lived in Kahuku district.

  19. A Fan October 24, 2017 9:52 am

Too Meke, while I do agree that Ane’s boy is over his head as the Punahou OC, there are several coaches who beg to differ with your statement that how can you be a coach if you never played a down. These coaches never played football at any level.

    Todd Haley (Former Chiefs Coach)
    Bill Clark (UAB)
    Bobby Hauck (UNLV)
    George O’Leary (UCF)

There’s more that’s unconfirmed such as Bill Walsh and Charlie Weiss.

So while it is probably best that a coach has played the sport, it’s clear that there are exceptions to the rule.

  20. Dsfun October 24, 2017 10:14 am

Nawahine is hitting so many yards because look at the competition. There is none in the OIA. Literally all the teams are horrible and I’m being straight serious. So of course you can run all over them.

  21. Recruit dis October 24, 2017 11:03 am

Coach c…. the only reason I stooped to your level and brought up those names is because you were crying about recruiting. Maybe he went to kahuku because he knew the competition was weaker and he would get more yards and he was right. Hats off to him for making a better football decision but a foolish educational one. If you look at running backs coming out of hawaii and going to D1 colleges it’s not so great. So I don’t think going to kahuku is going to better his chances of going to college I think switching positions would of been the smarter idea.

  22. TooMeke October 24, 2017 11:33 am

@A fan: True…just not for OC Ane.

In the 2nd game vs St LuLu when it was 1st down within their own 5-yard line, he called FOUR VERTICAL ROUTES…

Who. Does. That??? Not any of the coaches you’ve named…I’ll throw in another name: Mike Leach at WSU.

Quick slants maybe? No. QB sneak maybe? No. A running play maybe? No. Bubble screen even? No.

Terrible. He IS the reason their season is over. Such is life.

  23. TooMeke October 24, 2017 11:35 am

Hey OC Ane… dis ain’t Madden. lol.

  24. Chris October 24, 2017 11:59 am

Lahainaluna would get eaten up in D-1 and is no match to compete against Oahu teams cause as u know Oahu teams will kill every outter island team.

  25. ILH October 24, 2017 12:46 pm

Transfer schools for Sports Glory?? or

Stay put and put the equipment away in October? but,

Graduate with a diploma from a prestigious private school along with the network that comes with it.

  26. WESTSIDE96761 October 24, 2017 1:24 pm

Choloroprichin..whatever your name, where you getting your info about Lahainaluna?..scoringlive roster? 61 players?!?! You trippin!! Whatever’z..see, the thing is your quick to judge! Don’t know the facts! That roster was in the beginning of the season. Most kids that cannot make the cut goes back to JV..some quit because it is a hard program. Since your an “internet” roster guy, and since you know SO much of this team..tell me which kids start? what’s their average weight and height? and how many actually play?..does all Oahu teams play every single kid? Since Oahu so GOOD, why they not independent? Play Florida..Texas, Boshop Gorman on a regular basis..see how they fair! see if you guys good enough! They get all the money, the talent, countless choices of kids…why they staying stagnant playing OIA or ILH?..COMON!! And, Lahainaluna or us fans never disrespected any programs. We happy where we at, to US, we not playing “scrubs”! Might be to you guys but they good competition to us. Oh, and I WISH they (HHSAA) bring the Lunas up D1 cause I KNOW THEY CAN COMPETE WITH OAHU TEAMS! (I NOT SAYING BEAT, WE CAN COMPETE AS, ANYBODY’s BALLGAME). By the way, who’s your team?..you know mine, I like know yours cause when Lahaina play you..win or lose, I like be the first for congratulate you! Come Lahaina, we small out hea..we play with what we get! This community not big like Waianae or Waipahu or Kalihi..you out here talking smack to one small program?..SHAME ON YOU BULLY! LOL

  27. RR4LIFE living the lie October 24, 2017 3:02 pm

Westside dummy please take a seat. The Lunas are ranked top 10 and they don’t deserve it. Pretty much all the OIA D1 schools would smash them. It’s a slap in the face to teams like Farrington and Kapolei who are in the D1 to have a D2 team ranked ahead of them when they play scrubs. Make a seperate D2 ranking if that’s the case. How long are the Lunas going to stay in D2? At least Iolani stepped up to play the better teams. Have fun with your b.s. Participation trophy. We all know the REAL state champs are in the Open. As far as playing mainland schools, do you know how much that would cost? There is no high school with that kind of budget you moron. Think before you speak dummy

  28. Sonny October 24, 2017 3:14 pm

Reading all this nonsense is cracking me up! I’m in defense for Lahainaluna High School, Im a Kapalama Grad. I’m humbled to say that team is very talented. They are not that big in size but they are very disciplined! The “IMU” is a very hard place to play, do not play there during the day, it really is hot. Their fans know how to support and the pride is very strong, They don’t play around. Small man syndrome is the best way to put it. I support them to host a game there because they do deserve it.

  29. Big D October 24, 2017 3:31 pm

Westside I see what you doing LOL unrealistic but atleast you got somebody pissed. RR4LIFE got caught with his pants down hehe you hating because a D2 team rank and your pretending arse football team neva? This guy needs to see a psychiatrist. No mind these losers hating, they mad cause they not playing anymore. How this RR4LIFE; if you no can win in D1, go down D2! Test yourselves against Pearl City lolololol straight up Red Raidahz! wassup!

  30. Kolohekoa October 24, 2017 3:51 pm

Westside96761, you one funny guy. While the Lahaina community is petitioning a home game, Choloroprichin and RR4LIFE living a lie should write a petition to remove a D2 team from the rankings. Retards! Shoutout to my WESTSIDE FAMILY. WESTSIDE96792

  31. EMZ October 24, 2017 6:14 pm

    -ILH-
I’m sorry but just cause it’s on Maui doesn’t mean that’s a home game. War Memorial is not our field. We have our own called Sue Cooley Stadium that sits atop Lahainaluna. Yes, google states it seats 3000?..still, it didn’t cap that off till “maybe” this past weekend.
We travelled to Kapaa, played them twice at their field. Went to Kona, played on their field “Konawaena” (way more smaller than ours), went to Pearl City, played on their field..(way more smaller than ours). We travelled to all the major islands played on their turf. All those opponents was “THEIR” own field with their logos on it..THAT IS HOME FIELD! We have that too, we held the number 1 seed. I’m saying, we deserve that privilege to play on our turf! Not Baldwins or Maui Highs turf.
My opinion is not wrong! Believe me, I live here and I fortunately have ties to all 4 schools (Baldwin, Maui High, Lahainaluna and Kamehameha) nephews play there and always supportive for all them and of course being a football fan myself. I can say I attend almost all the games each week lol. When playoffs comes around and your team ain’t in it..nobody cares except your community! We seen this year after year. When we played Waipahu at War Memorial last year it was maybe 1000 Lahaina..and 40(?) Waipahu fans. You call that a sold out crowd? Next game was Baldwin vs Mililani, 2000 Baldwin fans, 50 Mililani fans. Why 2000?..cause they just live right there, that’s Baldwins home turf! So, if your family tailgate on Maui?..that’s pretty cool cause I haven’t seen that for a varsity game yet. ALL MAUI can contest yo that!

  32. RR4LIFE living the lie October 24, 2017 7:01 pm

Just be happy you still playing for that participation trophy. You guys are the biggest sandbaggers. That title used to be Iolanis but they had the balls to move up. I used to think Kahuku had the most ignorant fans but Lahaina is stepping up. Have fun playing consolation. Everyone will be watching the Big Boys play.

  33. Maui Warrior October 24, 2017 7:18 pm

    @RR4LIFE living the lie

Looks who’s talking ignorant? You talk about Iolani stepping up to the plate? Guess where Iolani stay? Back in D2. They got bust up when they was in D1 for two years and they getting bust up in D2 this year. Now people stay grumbling that Iolani shouldn’t be playing in the playoffs with their current record. You my friend is crying pun cause your team not even in the playoffs. Get a life you troll.

Somebody from Kahuku stole, “RR4L Living the lie” or better known as “Education First” this guys woman, cuz he has some hate in his hart. Poor guy I feel sorry for you. You must not have too much friends. The life you have must be so sad. I wish you the best my friend, I really do. Yours truly RR4L._.

  38. Talia. October 24, 2017 7:49 pm

Hey all you Lunas, play D-2 unless you feel otherwise. Don’t listen to the grumbles here on Oahu. I know the boys take care of those kind of people by showing it all on the field. Y’all finish strong regardless what happens. I’ll be cheering from wherever as I know you’re gonna do great. Much respect from Oahu. ✊🏻

  43. "UNITY=STRENGTH" October 24, 2017 10:39 pm

Brothers in the know should be sharing any infomation regarding any mainland schools wanting to play or coming to the aina next year. I think what St.Louis did to the Gauchos pay back will be on the minds from them and from other schools wanting to play our schools. I dont know what your rosters will be like next year should be preparing transfers recruits DE whatever’s mainland schools coming down should be televised for more exposure not unless the powers that be throws a wrench in the gears!!!:)

  44. Recruit dis October 24, 2017 11:00 pm

Coach c….. how do you know that he wouldn’t have gotten a scholarship from usc if he stayed at St. Louis . C’mon yeah St. Louis is pass happy but if got a stud running back of course your gonna use him. You adjust your offense to what talent you got. If nawahine was that good he would’ve gotten a d1 scholarship playing at punahou. Look at Steven lakalaka and Wayne talaupapa. What you got now?

  45. SaberNation October 25, 2017 6:31 am

RRFL, I dunno if you notice but nobody like you and your boyfriend choloroprichin. You still pretending for be one Kahuku fan? They when disown you saying you not from dea dummeh. Make new divisions….2Ilh teams with 4 OIA on both sides red/blue…play the season that way…you could have st.louis Kamehameha one side and punahou iolani the other since iolani always makes it to states without even winning …that would be exciting games…say if u have kahuku kapolei Waianae and farrington one side…let’s see if st.louis can go through them all…same as with testi g the oia teams…just a opinion

BUT THEN TALK YOU CRAP ABOUT KAHUKU AND THE PEOPLE?

    RR4LIFE living the lie October 23, 2017 7:56 pm
The only babies are the ones wearing Red. Lucas for playing in D2 and claiming to be champs and Kahuku who cries about everything. Kahuku problems is their fans where losers for so long that they think they entitled to win. These Kahuku fans on here are the ones who used to get their okoles kicked by St. Louis. Now they cry recruiting when they themselves are guilty of it. Can’t wait till they lose to Mililani and then St. Louis. Then these boards will no longer have to hear their whinning. Worst community on the island. I remember when this community had REAL pride back when the mill was running. Lots of hard workers but now it’s all football and lazy people.

    RR4LIFE REALLY?

  49. ILH October 25, 2017 10:43 am

    -EMZ-

We agree to disagree. Lets say this then, its more of an advantage for the team who doesnt have to travel. I think thats more accurate and appropriate. As far as why they chose the stadium I think its pretty obvious but I hope that if you guys are petitioning to move it that you are successful.

I was wondering, are less Luna fans going to attend because its all the way at War Memorial?? I hope not. And, as far as no one cares about another school if it they aint in the tournament, I dont think that applies to everyone and am amazed that you know everyone in order to know that this is true.

As far as tailgating, Kala Mai, thats my Oahu speak, they meant BBQ and pupus at the house before heading down to the game.

As for the game, may the best team win.

  50. george October 25, 2017 11:59 am

    Regarding the open division
OIA champion vs. OIA third place, 4 p.m.
    Saint Louis vs. OIA runner-up, 7 p.m.
I don’t know the format, but hopefully, the OIA runner-up and OIA third place draw from either the OIA champs or the ILH champs. That would be the fair. Does anybody know the format? I sure would like to know.
