The Chargers kept running through and around Kalaheo’s defense in a 43-8 win on Friday.
Charles Freitas ran in two touchdowns for Pearl City (3-1, 3-0 OIA D-II), his second TD giving Pearl City a 37-0 lead in the second quarter. He finished with 52 yards on 11 carries.
“He’s been running very good for the last few games,” said Pearl City coach Robin Kami.
Andre Carter then drove his way into the end zone in the third quarter. He started the drive with two short carries. After a penalty moved the ball to Kalaheo’s 20, Carter ran in for a touchdown to make it 43-0.
Pearl City’s sixth straight win over Kalaheo evened the all-time series at 11-11. The Chargers shut out the Mustangs (1-3, 1-2) in their last two meetings and almost made it a third. But Kalaheo quarterback Mark Lehrner scrambled, shook off a defender, then ran in from 10 yards out to put the Mustangs on the scoreboard with 6:42 remaining.
Pearl City’s Kekainalu Simon completed four of six passes for two touchdowns and 104 yards. Kasey Kikuyama set up Simon’s second TD in the first quarter, intercepting Lehrner’s pass with a minute remaining. The Chargers scored on the next play when Simon connected on a 38-yard pass to Isaiah Asinsin. Zameer Khan’s PAT made it 23-0.
The Chargers have won three straight since dropping the season opener to Lahainaluna.
“We went to back to more basic fundamentals, blocking, catching, tackling,” Kami said.
