No field, no problem for Big Red.
Kahuku ascended to the No. 1 position in today’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10, collecting nine of 12 first-place votes to oust Kamehameha.
Kahuku overwhelmed Leilehua 55-0 over the weekend and improved to 3-0, outscoring OIA Open Division foes 171-20. Two of three opponents are currently or have previously been in this season’s Top 10 rankings.
With Carleton Weimer Track and Field under renovation, the team practices at Kahuku District Park next door. Going back to the summer, many of the team’s top receivers, quarterbacks, running backs, defensive backs and linebackers were part of the Rebel Squad that won a Pylon national tournament.
Saint Louis moved up a notch to No. 2 following a decisive 41-7 win over Kamehameha. The Crusaders collected three first-place votes from the panel of coaches and media.
The only other changes in this week’s poll were Campbell and Moanalua. Campbell jumped up to No. 5, switching places with Punahou, following a 39-0 rout of Waianae.
Moanalua outscored Castle, 49-26, and improved to 3-0 in OIA Division I play. Na Menehune landed in the rankings at No. 10, replacing Waianae.

Bwahahahahahahaha….
I didn’t say we were gonna be #1. But there was definitely some Lulu fans claiming they were gonna be….love it!!!!
BTW…don’t mention Pylon. Apparently it’s irrelevant.
Just keep on working boys, this ranking don’t mean squat. Still got 3 dangerous squads to get through before playoffs.
Btw, where did the 20 points come from? Kapolei scored 7; Farrington scored 6; Leilehua 0 = 13
RRFL!!
BTW……you lost your X’s and O’s credentials with that Pylon comment.
Does anyone really care about mid season rankings? They don’t mean anything and are pointless. I take that back, it does make for a good comment section! Hahaha
Keep the games coming. Good Luck and stay healthy players!
OK tic tac toe police
Gotta love it when kahuku fans comes out from their shoe boxes lol. Been hibernating for 5 years, all the arrogant fans. You guys might as well enjoy the ride this year, maybe this is Kahuku’s year, maybe not , but LULU will be a team to reckon with for the next 3 years. The team is very young and loaded with Athletes. Kahuku probably has the best athletes in the state year in and year out. But there micky mouse style of offense has been their downfall. Coaching Coaching Coaching. Kahuku is only as good as their athletes, give no credit to the staff. You can grab a guy off the streets and kahuku would still have same results.
StL gonna have to beat Raider Nation yet again I guess. Nah, should be a good State Tourney. Good luck, bruhs.
Let’s Go Big Red, keep pushing these stats don’t mean nothing. Execute no matter what
Hawaii Prep/ Paul Honda, most trustworthy HS polls in Hawaii. ScoringLame had Kahuku at #4 last week. I mean both ILH teams got 2 losses.
From Good Story:
“You folks do remember that Kahuku did win some national Pylon tournaments right???”
For some context.
Keep on Keeping on.
Putting em on notice! The chemistry that these kids have together is what sets them apart. Mililani is good, but it’s a recruited team. Saint Louis is an awesome team, but also recruited, they have the coaching is what puts them up above. But the chemistry these boys from the north along with the coaching! That’s gonna be hard to beat! I know it’s only the beginning of the season, but the writing is on the wall and dem Red Raiders look like a very dangerous team!!
If Moanalua wins OIA D1, then they need to move up to Open division. They have a good coach, some big boys and a great team. Radford would be another team that would move up from D2 to D1. Teams like Farrington would need to drop to D1 until they can re establish themselves.
Each division has teams that can lopside a score or be on the wrong side of the lopside. It’s not their fault . They are just in the wrong division. After each season, the OIA needs to assess and do placement on each school. Enough venting.
Waipahu vs.Moanalua this week is the Big D1 game.
All you parents…stop wasting your time sending your kids to Pylon. According to some, it means nothing.
Also, when you get your vaccination cards please look for ILOVEHAWAII to get your X’s and O’s certification for the Tic Tac Toe championships too.
Yes. Stick to comedy and not commenting on football kine tings.
From Good Story, the casual football fan,
“You folks do remember that Kahuku did win some national Pylon tournaments right???”
The gift that keeps giving.
Also:
Big respect to you for encouraging people to get the VAX which is normally a sensitive subject, Especially on a chat forum. Props to you.
Kapolei has nothing, Farrington has nothing, Leilehua has nothing, come on now Kahuku fans, think about it, i’m pretty Sure Iolani in Division 1 could beat those teams that Kahuku beat, any way, we’ll see come the State Tournament time.
Exactly. Just a casual fan…sound like you’re a self appointed moral high ground know it all. Stop whining and grow up.
@ILH oh we will see! 😏 #ComingBackNorth #KingInTheNorth #WinterIsComing
You think St. Louis has a young roster check out Kahuku’s roster. Kahuku is set to dominate the next 10 years. You know who’s not young? The Crusaders DC and HC. The end is near and just like 2002 they will retire and Punahou will take over the ILH. That’s the thing about a program that depends on recruits from around the island to build their team. When popularity dies down so does the interest from kids around the island. Kahuku on the other hand has a wealth of home grown talent waiting to wear the Red. Next man up
I think it’s a good rank. Thing is, maybe they haven’t played tough comp yet but when you play lesser comp you should kill and that’s what they did. They didn’t get sucked into a close game with a team they should blow out so they doing what they should.
I would like to invite everyone here to the first, inaugural Hawaiiprepworld Comment Section mix. (For all the palagis that means kava). We can settle all this over a few cups! Or 20.
Hmmm. Okay, victim.
Im not the one that’s begging for support in my responses.
Also from Good Story:
“Stop whining and grow up”.
Words to live by.
Just for clarification.
1. I do agree that the RR’s will take the OIA.
2. I think this is one of the fastest RR defensive units I have seen in a bit.
3. If there was any a year that RR’s can roll up Lulu, this is it.
4. I do not feel that Pylon transfers into 11 v 11 football.
So much animosity @PatiPati. Why you mad? lol. Where were you prior to this weekend? IF Kamehameha wins this weekend, big IF, I’m pretty sure we won’t hear you crow much until next year.
But, you’re not wrong about the disney offense or the coaching in the past. It is what it is.
However, this year’s squad looks and plays different than what’ we’ve seen the last few years. As ILoveHawaii mentioned, it is a really fast defensive unit. Overall team speed is actually must faster.
All 3 phases of this year’s Big Red squad is lit; praying for no injuries.
Sure, we beat 3 squads we’re supposed beat. But, when you compare the wins, every single game was decided in the first half. The Kapolei game was close, but it was the first game of the season; re-watch that game and you will see that after Kapolei scored, adjustments were made and it wasn’t even close after that.
As I mentioned earlier, the boys just need to stay humble, cause you’re right, they haven’t beaten or played any team of note yet.
Just keep on working and hopefully, we’ll be back in the ‘ship!
RRFL!!
Public vs. Private no COMPARISON. Private= $$, paid coaches, recruiting, facility equipment, staff, etc. Public=only heart, pride, community.
@ilovehawaii with regards to the Pylon comment I think he/she meant that because the current Kahuku roster has been playing together in outside tournaments like the Pylon and winning them the success has transferred over. In the past Pylon teams from our side consisted of players from all over the island but this years squad was made up mostly of the kids on the team.
They went 16-0. 2 Tournaments…All Red Raiders. Playing against athletes from all over the country. The amount of team work, communication, pride, discipline, not to mention valuable experience from some close games…I guess it’s better to just know your X’s and O’s.
Don’t listen to me, I’m just a casual fan. But if I’m right…stick to tic tac toe with your X’s and O’s
@88 that’s the difference maker, these kids have built a chemistry with each other. People can say whatever about pylon, but they showing that it actually converted well into 11 v 11. All this “kahuku fans coming out the woodwork” “only now red Raider nation” pffff! The community pride has always been there! It’s generations deep! You guys should be thanking the red Raider nation for some of these kids have put your programs on the map!
We’ll just wait for the OIA and State playoffs to see whose the best Team in the State Open Division.
#24Eddie K Hit the nail on the HEAD!!!
When STL All Black wins 7on7 Pylon it’s a BIG story.
When Kahuku or any OIA team wins, Pylon is a joke? Lol…SMH
When the Lee’s retire STL will end up like STF.
JJ is their only hope for that program to not fold.
@HailfromDaNorth let’s hope so cause right now 98% of the plays go to #11… LMAO
You got the kaio kid, he’s a stud. Imagine if Cole Pruett and some of these other boys that are playing in utah, imagine if they stayed home. We’ll see! Let’s get this season going!
Yes sir. Would like to see others getting involved too. Design plays for the TightEnd, use the stable of RBs you have.
Hard to use any stable when Defense and Special Teams is scoring like crazy. By the time my nephew gets in game over. Hahaha……
Right on.
Its apparent we dont agree and probably never will on this topic.
Perhaps, we may agree on this.
I am assuming that you have been to a Pylon tournament on the mainland when I ask this.
Is the Culture of Pylon, 7v7, a good one?
As an aside. How effective is Pylon with helping a player get into college?
Respectfully,
Tic-Tac-Toe Guy
KAHUKU VS ST LOUIS CLASH IN STATES. Moanalua plays in the “pop Warner “ division lol they ain’t top 10!! KAHUKU would put 100 on them!!!
Rebel Squad (Kahuku boys) won 3 straight 7-on-7 tourneys this year. One in Hawaii (National Guard), One in Utah (Level Up Elites) and One in Las Vegas a.k.a the Mecca (Pylon 7-on-7). Looking at the HPW articles only Kahuku boys.
when the Lee’s retire , the crusade will march on, alumni is strong. Long list of ex crusaders who could take over and get same results. Its a system, and this system will carry on, tradition. As far as Kahuku, i admit they are good this year, but then again, they faced a Farrington team who basically had half their starters out, Kapolei a team with disaster coaching, and Leilehua , a depleted team. And must i say , when the Red Raiders talk about rooted not recruited, i believe their district is a 40 mile stretch which goes from Haleiwa to Kaneohe. Like one guy said above, here comes the Arrogant fans that was hiding in shoe boxes lol. Thats a good one.
LOL Moanaolua is kind of like in the middle kind of team, they should kill everybody in their division , but if they go up , they would get killed. Sucky situation to be in lol.
When it reads Red Raiders , the comments will keep coming
So popular, still trending, HBO special.
What are you smoking bro? The last time the Lee’s retired Punahou took over the ILH. That’s why they were begged to come back..
88 you one red raider that never wore the jersey. probably in the stands eating popcorn. you talk about st louis recruiting, it is a private school so yah u going get kids from all over. let me tell you all this and this is real talk , on a complete football team, kahuku year in and year out probably has the best athletes than any other school , INCLUDING THE ILH. Let me tell you all that Kahuku shouldve had at least 12-14 state championships. But you all want to know the truth ? When you want to play , lets run over everybody strategy with no coaching , yah you only end up with half of those state championships. So all you red raider cry babies , stop crying about the crusaders recruiting, cuz at the end of the day , the kahuku team probably has the better athletes.
I’m wondering why there’s so many kahuku fans that believe so much that Kahului has proven to be a number 1 team after playing the worst teams in the open division
After the Lee Brothers retire, June Jones will be there coaching.
Kahuku doesn’t deserve anything and neither does Saint Louis. Not until the end of the season. But you is the same guy always talking how Crusaders this and Crusaders that. We going see at the end of the season. Everyone talks smack. That’s part of the fun. Just don’t get your panty in a bunch and have fun. Let’s goooooooooo!!!!!
Run over strategy? You mean the Elephant package.. Uh do your home work and see what school the 2 coaches who came up with this offense came from… lol
look at all these ILH people whining and crying and hate on us and attacking us for no reason. maybe instead of hating big red, focus on recruiting harder because that’s the only thing you guys have.
Crusaders takes ILH Crown with win over Kamehameha 35-21 and of course the referees, especially head ref Robert Victor who always seems to ref the Saint Louis games and makes so many bad calls against Saint Louis, really like the sportsmanship of Coach Abu Maafala who goes on the field to check on the injured Saint Louis players, Abu Maafala has a lot of class.
I Love the recruiting statement. As if every top team doesn’t want talent to go to their school! Kahuku and STL have a pipeline, not sure if that’s the same as recruiting? A lot of kids and their families want to attend those schools for what ever reason. Let’s stop pretending that all schools don’t “recruit”! Let families make the decision that’s best for them and move on! Good run by the Kamehameha Warriors.Maybe not enough recruits. Hahaha….. (relax that was a joke)
@ItIsWhatItIs
you right every school especially the top 3 in the OIA recruits. It aint no secret , Mililani get guys from all over the place, Kahuku get families that bring their kids to Kahuku just to play football. I cant stand when Kahuku people make like rooted not recruited lol, cmon man. At the end the of the day they still got to play the game and let the best team win. Kahuku always had big kids and talented kids and they shouldve won more championships with what they have . Their talented defense is what makes kahuku year in and year out with athletes flying to the ball, no coaching involved, but their offense doesnt compensate for it. They man handle all the smaller schools but when come time to play teams that has smart coaching, thats where the battle is lost .
