The Hilo Vikings football team is without its head coach.
Coach Dave Baldwin is “on leave” while administrators look into a complaint made against him.
After a meeting at the school on Monday night, sources say the team will have co-head coaches for Saturday’s game at Punahou, and Baldwin will not be one of them.
Athletic Director Kurt Kawachi could not go into detail about the nature of the complaint or who it came from.
“As of Wednesday the 5th, Dave Baldwin is on leave from our football program. I cannot comment on any specifics at this time, but we’re in the process of reorganizing our football program and we will make an announcement about an interim head coach shortly,” Kawachi said on Monday morning.
Hilo won the BIIF Division-I title last year and gave Kahuku a strong challenge during the state tournament. The Vikings will travel to play Punahou on Saturday.
“We still plan on coming up and we’ll do our best,” Kawachi said.
Hilo will suit up roughly 45 players.
Geezus,, I hope its not one of these sexual assault or discrimination cases……..or could it be that the coach was using abusive language and was too harsh on his players……oh, well, truth be told it will come out eventually…..
