Anuenue forfeits game vs. Kalaheo

Anuenue forfeited its third game of the season, coach Keli‘i Pio Adams confirmed Thursday night.

The Hawaiian immersion school from the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II has 19 available players on its 23-person roster, but most of them are underclassmen. Na Koa also has four injured players that are in the process of rehabbing.

“It’s very, very, very frustrating,” Adams said about not being able to put a team on the field for the three games.

Anuenue, which lost its season-opening game 62-0 to St. Francis of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II, previously forfeited games to OIA D-II rivals Radford and Kaimuki.

Two Na Koa injured players have returned to the roster since that first forfeit, when six of the players were hurt.

“It’s still week to week,” said the coach, who is believing and hoping Na Koa (0-4, 0-3 OIA D-II) can play in their next game Sept. 4 at Pearl City (1-1) and beyond.
