As the 2017 Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s football All-State team release draws near, periodically we are going to ask a spreadsheet to generate a random number between 1947 and 2016.
Whichever year pops up, we will post that season’s all-star pages here with the help of the Hawaii State Library System and newspapers.com.
Today we dial the wayback machine to the ancient time of 1948, when the ILH ruled the land and Kamehameha ruled the ILH. Despite the Warriors’ title, they put only two players on the Advertiser’s all-star team in Marvin Ferreira and Donald Ho.
The Star-Bulletin only gave Kamehameha two on the first team as well, but replaced Ho with Thomas Hugo. Runner-up Saint Louis had four players on each team and Punahou was well represented on the Star-Bulletin list.
The Star-Bulletin proudly announced its second Rural OIA team, putting four Waipahu players on the list of 11 including unanimous selection Carl Shimoda.

The best player that might have graduated in 1949 is Charlie Ane. RIP
