In the end, La‘akea Kapoi chose a path of his own.
The Saint Louis offensive lineman committed to San Diego State on Thursday, turning down offers from 19 other football programs. He took recent trips to SDSU, UNLV and Syracuse before making his decision.
Kapoi’s commitment is on the heels of teammate Jonah Savaiinaea‘s commitment to Arizona on Monday.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound right tackle has a 3.4 grade-point average. Summer has brought daily conditioning workouts at Kalaepohaku as well as the reopening of the weight room, much to Kapoi’s delight.
“Every day after conditioning (on the field), we go in the weight room and lift. I hadn’t been in there since COVID. It feels good,” he said. “I didn’t have too much equipment at home, just barbells and dumbbells, bands. Having it at school makes it a lot easier.”
