Glenn Flores is hoping for more.
Ayzek Silva struck out six Mules and allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings as No. 6 Campbell rolled to a five-inning, 13-0 win over Leilehua on Saturday at Wahiawa Middle School field. Kaimana Savaiinaea pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two.
It was the Saber bats that came alive with runners on base, leaving their coach smiling.
“We got hits with two outs today. Recently, that’s been our downfall,” Flores said.
Campbell improved to 6-1 in the OIA West, tied with Mililani for the lead. This makes it four wins in a row for the Sabers, including two straight by TKO. Silva improved to 2-1 and now has 16 K’s in his last 9 2/3 innings.
“Ayzek hit his spots really well. Early in the count, he was getting first strikes and mixing it up,” Flores said. “I’m glad we got to see the quality of Ayzek.”
Leilehua dropped to 4-3 in the OIA West. The Mules’ only losses have been to Campbell and Mililani.
“Campbell had a great day with the bats,” Leilehua first-year coach Marc Rios said. “It’s nothing that our pitchers did wrong.”
All of Campbell’s starters registered in the hit column, including a 3-for-4 day for leadoff batter Shayden Sabangan. He also drove in two runs and scored twice.
