Winter is coming, and it is clearly part of fall sports.
The Zippy’s State Cheerleading Championships will be at Blaisdell Center on Dec. 18, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association announced on Wednesday morning.
The HHSAA also announced dates for the First Hawaiian Bank Football State Championships. In Open Division, the semifinals will be played on Saturday, Dec. 18 with the title game on Thursday, Dec. 23.
The Division I football semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 17 with a title game on Dec. 23.
The D-II semifinals are on Wednesday, Dec. 22, followed by a title game on Thursday, Dec. 30.
No sites have been established yet for the football state tournament.
Please don’t schedule the Open and D1 championships one after the other. D1 might be interested in watching the Open division but probably not many Open fans care to suffer through a different game before their game.
Wow. Short turn around for the Open teams.
Don’t forget that the HHSAA cannot hold the tournament at Aloha Stadium unless they agree to have zero fans in the stands. That actually might be interesting.
But if not that, then will UH let them play in the Manoa stadium? I don’t know because the Hawaii Bowl is there on December 24 and the Hawaii Bowl teams have to practice at Manoa on December 23.
The HHSAA could move the championship games to the following week. December 28 (D2), December 29 (D1), December 30 (Open). All at UH Manoa. It’s all on weeknights, but don’t forget that all the schools are off that week, so no need worry about classes. Or does that make too much sense?
Ok ill put this in my calendar
