The newest class of the Hall of Honor was selected on Sunday, awarding each athlete a $2,000 scholarship from Enterprise. >> Nanea Estrella, Lahainaluna She is a four-time state champion in wrestling, the sixth girl in state history to do so and the second from Maui, joining Lahainaluna’s Lalelei Mataafa from 2016. On this day in 2003, a pioneer of girls wrestling quit as coach to become an athletic director. Joel Kawachi, who led Moanalua to the first three state wrestling titles, is still the AD at the school. As he pointed out in the below article, Kawachi never won the OIA boys title as a coach. Respicio, a three-time state champion at Kamehameha, accepted an offer from Midland University in Nebraska to join its successful wrestling program.
