Waipahu finally will be tested next week

By Billy Hull on September 16, 2017

Both running back Alfred Failauga and receiver Alika Ahsing were extremely humble after the Marauders’ 49-0 win over Kalani on Saturday night at Kaiser Stadium. Ahsing, who had three receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns, answered every question saying the Marauders could be a lot better. “We’ll come back Monday and get to work,” he repeated again and again. Failauga, who rushed for 147 yards and four touchdowns, was equally as muted, saying “we played well, but could do […]

GAME NIGHT 9/16: Kalani/Waipahu

By Hawaii Prep World on September 16, 2017

There will be at least one undefeated team remaining in OIA Division II after tonight — and maybe two — if Waipahu can beat Kalani in the first game played on the new field at Kaiser Stadium. Kalani hasn’t beaten Waipahu since 1972 when Fancy Misipeka was carrying the load. That’s 10 losses in a row. Kalani quarterback Seth Tina-Soberano (ribs) will not play tonight. Falcons hope to have him back for Roosevelt game next week. Senior Justin Gatewood expected to get […]

Waipahu celebrates new field in style

By Christian Shimabuku on September 9, 2017

The fans showed up to Waipahu’s first game on campus since 2015, almost enough to fill the stands on Friday night. So the Marauders returned the favor, giving their town the performance of a true OIA Division II contender in a 63-7 rout of Waialua. “We just came out here and wanted to give this game to the community. We didn’t have a game for two years on this field and it’s just a blessing to get back on here,” […]

GAME NIGHT 9/8: Waialua/Waipahu

By Hawaii Prep World on September 8, 2017

The Marauders had won 16 of the last 17 meetings against the Bulldogs until Waialua pulled off a 36-35 shocker at Aloha Stadium last year to win the OIA Division II state title. This is the first meeting since and while Waialua has lost nearly all of its firepower from last season, the Waipahu is in great shape to get back to the D-II title game again this year. WAIALUA BULLDOGS (0-4, 0-3 OIA D-II) Head coach: Lincoln Barit Bulldogs […]

Failauga’s run at record stalled by injury

By Christian Shimabuku on August 25, 2017

Take a look at the state’s top seven rushers of all-time and you’ll notice that not a single one of them carried the ball for the varsity team during their freshman seasons. That’s why Waipahu sophomore Alfred Failauga has a huge advantage over those listed greats. As a freshman last fall, he racked up 1,259 yards on the ground for the Marauders and he’s on pace to shatter the record of Mililani’s Vavae Malepeai, who rushed for 4,549 yards over […]

Learning time for young Nanakuli, Watson

By Brian McInnis on August 5, 2017

It wasn’t really the kind of debut that Kili Watson wanted, but Friday night’s 51-14 home loss to Waipahu could hold value for Nanakuli’s new head football coach nonetheless. The young Watson was measured afterward, and had good reason; it wasn’t a terrible loss under the circumstances. The Golden Hawks had precious little experience, while the Marauders returned a load of it. Both teams were at less than full strength because of several players landing on early season academic probation, […]
