Q&A: Waianae football coach Walter Young

By Paul Honda on October 20, 2017

It could be the drive-through at McDonalds or the parking lot at Foodland. If there’s time to get things done, Walter Young finds a way. The Waianae football coach is busy with his young children before and after practice up and down the Leeward Coast. He’s also busy with his football kids. The Seariders will meet Mililani in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I semifinals tonight at Aloha Stadium. Waianae outlasted Farrington last week, 27-21, to advance. Last year, the […]

Waianae’s Rosario invited to Polynesian Bowl

By Billy Hull on October 19, 2017

Waianae running back Rico Rosario, who set the Seariders’ single-game school rushing record with 243 yards earlier this season, has been selected to play in the 2018 Polynesian Bowl. Rosario (5-foot-10, 200 pounds), who was an All-State first-team selection as a junior after leading the state in rushing yards, is currently third on Oahu in Division I with 702 yards and a league-best 10 rushing touchdowns in only seven games played. Rosario surpassed 2,000 career rushing yards in a win […]

The seventh-ranked Seariders’ unit on that side of the ball will have to play well if they are to have […]

Waianae’s offense finally shows some balance

By Nick Abramo on September 23, 2017

There are a few stats that come screaming off the page after No. 6 Waianae’s 44-0 homecoming victory over Aiea on Friday: >> The Seariders rushed for 158 yards (which also means Aiea’s defense held them to those yards) and passed for 144 for a super-balanced offense. >> Waianae will have won five games in a row when next weeks’s forfeit victory over Kaiser becomes official, and those five wins came after three straight losses to open the season — […]
