By Nick Abramo on June 26, 2019

SIXTH IN A SERIES This summer, head coaches from all 28 Oahu high school varsity football teams are being asked to recount their football playing days. One coach interviewed for this multi-part series pointed out what he thinks may be the value of this endeavor: “A lot of times, you only hear about coaches when they’re getting released or are having a special season. It’s super hard to have a special season, so this should shed more light on them […]

CLOSING THE BOOK: Waianae Seariders

By Jerry Campany on October 25, 2018

When the Waianae Seariders faithful gather to talk about the glory days, they will skip over 2018 unless it is as a springboard to the greatest comeback ever in 2019. The Open Division did not treat the Seariders kindly, leaving them with a 1-8 record for the worst mark in the school’s storied history. The only time Waianae won only one game was in its first season in 1959 but even that squad scored more points than Waianae’s 7.4 this […]

Gilman scores twice on defense to lead Punahou

By Paul Honda on October 12, 2018

It’s not often a defensive player scores a touchdown. Or two touchdowns. In a span of 18 seconds. For Alaka‘i Gilman, it was a second quarter to remember. The Punahou safety was in the right place at the right time, returning a fumble 25 yards to paydirt, then turning an interception into a pick-6 form 30 yards out, boosting the lead to 28-0 as No. 2 Punahou overwhelmed Waianae 52-0 on Friday night.
