LIVE BLOG: Kahuku 30, Waianae 0, F

By Paul Honda on October 3, 2015

It’s No. 4 Kahuku (7-0, 6-0) against No. 6 Waianae (6-1, 6-0) in a showdown for first place in the OIA Red. Both teams have already sealed first-round byes in the OIA Division I playoffs. FIRST QUARTER Huuuge break for Waianae, recovering what was an pouchy (PK Tate Ebel with the recovery), but quick moving on-side kick. Brilliant. But then after getting the ball in its territory, they run, run, run and punt. I was hoping they’d go for a […]

Looking back at Waianae’s last win over Kahuku

By Billy Hull on October 1, 2015

It’s a rivalry, no doubt. A rivalry that has been dominated for over a decade by the guys from the North Shore. Kahuku and Waianae meet Saturday night at Aloha Stadium with the OIA Red division championship at stake. Two storied programs that have remained true to what they’ve always been about, smashmouth football at its finest. First-year coach Walter Young has done a great job coming back from a season-opening 20-point loss to Kamehameha to run the table through […]

VIDEO: Kaiser at No. 7 Waianae

By Paul Honda on September 27, 2015

The one game this weekend that featured almost as many combined points than the wild Punahou-Saint Louis matchup: Kaiser at Waianae. The Seariders’ 62-27 win had a little bit of everything, including a field goal, a safety, a recovered fumble on a kick return muff. Oh, a kickoff return for a TD by one of the starting quarterbacks, too.

Waianae: Classic and modified

By Paul Honda on September 26, 2015

They are not your ordinary 60-point offensive juggernaut. The Waianae Seariders have much in common with their predecessors of a few years ago, even a few decades ago. >> Their head coach, Walter Young, is a teacher at the school. >> They line up in the wing offense and blast away while keeping defenses honest with an occasional counter. >> They run a majority of the time. In Saturday’s 62-27 win over Kaiser, the Seariders ran 75 percent of the […]

LIVE BLOG: Waianae 62, Kaiser 27, Final

By Paul Honda on September 25, 2015

Kickoff will be around 8:20 p.m., my guess. Running clock in the second half of the JV game sped things up. It’s homecoming night for Waianae. They’re going to do their homecoming court festivities before the varsity game. FIRST QUARTER Seariders forced Kaiser into a three and out, then drove 65 yards in six plays. Jaren Ulu to Isaiah Freeney on a go route for a 28-yard TD. WAIN 7, KAIS 0, 7:58. Solofua Grey recovers Waianae’s pooch on the […]

Waianae scored 90 without running up score

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 6, 2015

A perfect storm produced an outcome that figures to resonate beyond Saturday’s round up of high school football scores. Facing an overmatched McKinley team, Waianae stayed on the ground to generate 453 yards in a record-breaking 90-0 win at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. The Seariders stayed relatively basic in the running game, didn’t attempt a pass and played their entire roster by the end of the second quarter in the OIA Red game. Ten Waianae players had carries in the […]
