The 2015 First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships kick off tonight with two first-round Division I games at Aloha Stadium. Up first is OIA third-place Waianae (8-3), which is making its first appearance in states since losing to the Marcus Mariota-led Saint Louis Crusaders in the 2010 final, against MIL champion Baldwin (8-3), which wants to snap a three-game losing streak in the tournament. The OIA Division I third-place game between powerhouses Waianae and Farrington turned out to be as tight a battle as expected. With the league’s final state-tournament berth at stake, Waianae held on for a 20-19 victory at John Kauinana Stadium.
