Emotional farewell for Ulu, Waianae seniors

By Nick Abramo on September 17, 2016

It’s not easy to say goodbye. That’s why Waianae quarterback Jaren Ulu‘s voice cracked just a little bit while he was being interviewed after the Seariders’ 54-0 victory over Radford on Friday night at Raymond Torii Field. Unless Waianae (6-1 5-1 OIA Blue) hosts a playoff game, this was the last time Ulu will be playing on the field he loves so much in front of family and friends and the die-hard fans. A few minutes later, Ulu’s name was […]

The Rams have yet to score an offensive touchdown this season while the Seariders are averaging 40.2 points in their four OIA wins. HISTORY: Waianae leads the series in the Prep Bowl and state championship eras 16-3 with 10 […]

Punahou alum and current San Francisco 49er DeForest Buckner is donating $10,000 in Nike apparel and another $10,000 in cash to assist Waianae High with various programs. Buckner, who grew up on the Leeward Coast, said in a press release Wednesday, “My family, including my mom, are all graduates of Waianae High School. I felt it was really important once I made it to the NFL to give back to my community. I hope this will help many student athletes […]

The ‘W’ matters to Waianae, not records

By Paul Honda on September 3, 2016

It was a gritty effort by the small band of Kaiser Cougars, but the Waianae Seariders were back to playing physical, ground-and-pound football on Friday night. It started with an opportunistic defense — Tytyn Kahooilihala‘s fumble recovery in the end zone just two snaps into the contest — and kept rolling with a bulldozing ground attack. It was fitting, in many ways, that Waianae’s leading rusher stopped short of breaking a school record. Rico Rosario piled up 190 yards on […]

GAME NIGHT 9/2: Kaiser/Waianae

By Hawaii Prep World on September 2, 2016

Three of the top five teams in the state are in action tonight with a six-game slate on Oahu. It didn’t stop Waianae from winning two games against Kaiser, but the Seariders must be happy not to have to worry about Jensen McDaniel. The Kaiser running back rushed for 159 and 147 yards in back-to-back games against the Seariders in 2014 and ’15. No. 5 Waianae is coming off a humbling 28-0 loss to No. 1 Kahuku and should be […]

Kahuku’s pile movers wore out Waianae

By Nick Abramo on August 27, 2016

It’s on to Cleveland … er … Campbell for the Kahuku football team after winning Friday’s big home matchup against Waianae, 28-0. The last sentence was a reference to Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots’ head coach who doesn’t give out a ton of information to the media and repeated multiple times that, “It’s on to Cleveland,” who the Patriots were playing the next weekend, to a reporter inquiring about Belichick’s thoughts after a victory. Like Belichick, Red Raiders head […]
