But, if Dick Butkus or Ronnie Lott are your kind of players, then you had a ball of fun watching this intense, early-season matchup of rivals and Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top-10 ranked teams. Train your binocolars on the line of scrimmage and watch the warriors slug it out. The fistfight was a draw. One […]

By Nick Abramo on August 8, 2017

Rico Rosario rushed for 1,266 yards and 15 touchdowns as a Waianae junior running back last season, so many people wondered why he didn’t play in a season-opening, nonleague, 49-7 home loss to Waianae last Saturday. Rosario said Tuesday night that he did not play in the game for two reasons. One, he broke a team rule, and two, he had an elbow injury suffered in a scrimmage against Punahou. Rosario also said that his absence is temporary. He has […]

Waianae learns lessons in loss to No. 1 Saint Louis

By Paul Honda on August 6, 2017

They’re not clones by any means, but the Waianae Seariders aren’t a whole lot different from the Farrington Governors at this point. Both teams, ranked in the Star-Advertiser top 10, are relatively young. Each has a massive number of first-year starters. Farrington lost to an ILH powerhouse, Kamehameha, 24 hours before Waianae took on ILH and state defending champion Saint Louis. Waianae, though, does have more returnees with experience. There just wasn’t much the Seariders could do when Saint Louis’ […]

No. 1 Saint Louis starts with tough task

By Jerry Campany on August 5, 2017

When Cal Lee returned to Saint Louis a few years ago, part of the reason was to bring back a taste of the old days. The ways don’t get much older than a season opener in Waianae. From 1967 to 1975, Saint Louis began each season except one (1972) against Larry Ginoza‘s Waianae Seariders. Ron Marciel‘s squad made the trip to the West side in alternating years, making it the only visiting field his boys would play on throughout the […]
