Waialua waiting for “OK” on grass field

By Nick Abramo on July 22, 2017

New grass has been planted on the Waialua football field. When it grows in fully, it will likely be a nice, new gift for the defending Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II champion Waialua Bulldogs. But there has been some problems caused by heavy rains in March and again in late June and early July, according to Waialua athletic director Bryce Kaneshiro. “The inspectors will be here in a couple of weeks,” Kaneshiro said. “They will be making sure that not […]

NERDPOD: Quarterbacks v3.0 The Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best quarterbacks in the state. This is more of a run-through than a breakdown of QB statistics for the first time since almost two months. Numbers don’t tell the whole story, of course. That’s why this is Nerdpod, not fanpod. Some amazing, eye-popping numbers this season. QBs listed below in random order for the most part. QUARTERBACKS Tua Tagovailoa, Saint Louis Measurables: 6-1, 210, […]

Waialua’s memorable run ends in Ewa Beach

By Jason Kaneshiro on November 5, 2016

As the last few Waialua players made their way toward the team bus to begin the journey from Ewa Beach back to the North Shore, Lincoln Barit took a moment to reflect on a season that will take a prominent place in Bulldogs lore. “The community, the family, the coaches, everybody came together. I’m so proud of the boys,” Barit said, then paused. “I get choked up every time I talk about them. It’s all them.” Waialua’s landmark campaign, Barit’s […]

The second Division II state tournament game Friday takes place at Campbell pitting OIA champion Waialua against ILH champion Damien in the first game of a doubleheader. The Monarchs (6-2) held off a tough challenge from St. Francis to win their second straight league title while the Bulldogs (8-2) pulled off gutsy wins against both Kaimuki and Waipahu to claim their first OIA championship in 61 years. It’s a quick turnaround for Waialua, which will play in the state tournament […]

VIDEO: Waialua beat Waipahu for OIA D-II title

By Paul Honda on October 30, 2016

It was and is, hands down, an instant classic. The Waipahu Marauders placed first in the OIA Division II regular season, climbing over Pearl City for the top seed. Waialua, by beating Pearl City in the final week of the regular season, grabbed the third seed. The two former ROIA schools then met in the title game at Aloha Stadium, providing perhaps the most entertaining and thrilling league championship game of the season. Waialua kept its composure to seal title win

By Nick Abramo on October 29, 2016

Make one big mistake and it’s over. Really. Waialua was clinging to a 1-point lead late in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II championship game and could easily have blown it. But the Bulldogs didn’t. And now after a 36-35 victory over Waipahu, they are owners of a league title for the first time since 1955. How sweet is that? Head coach Lincoln Barit was trying to make his way over to the edge of the field to join in […]

GAME NIGHT 10/28: Waipahu/Waialua

By Hawaii Prep World on October 28, 2016

It’s title night in the OIA at Aloha Stadium with the Division I and Division II OIA championship games taking place. The Division II battle features 2006 and ’11 OIA D-II champion Waipahu (8-1) against Waialua (6-2), which is looking to end a 61-year title drought. The Marauders avenged their only loss of the season with a 13-7 win over Pearl City last weekend in the semifinals. Waipahu is the only team on Oahu with a 1,000-yard passer (Braden Amorozo) […]

North Shore unites at Aloha Stadium

By Nick Abramo on October 28, 2016

Right now, the Waialua Bulldogs are playing for their first football league championship since 1955 and it doesn’t hurt to have the whole North Shore on your side. A little magic blessing from Kahuku, the defending Division I state football champions from the Eastern end, can’t hurt. Well, Waialua — from the Western end of the North Shore — just happens to be on the Mauka sideline at Aloha Stadium for its Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II title game against […]
