Damien’s Zada Tagovailoa has an arm to match her cousins, Tua and Taulia

Sacred Hearts junior Anne Wong breaks 300 hurdles mark at Victorino

The weekend was a bit busy for Anne Wong. On Thursday, the Sacred Hearts junior and her track and field team flew to Maui for the Victorino Ohana meet at War Memorial Stadium. Her time in the trials of the 300-meter hurdles was 47.44 seconds, good enough to qualify for the finals. It was the best time of her career, which began just one year ago. Athletes surpass best of 2019 at Punahou Relays

Punahou’s Sina Uluave, Kamehameha’s Kawika Clemente and three relay teams notched the best Hawaii track and field marks of 2019 so far on Saturday. Six high school track and field athletes catapulted into 2019’s “Best in Hawaii” category in recent meets: >> Mililani senior Mackenzie Reed ran the 400-meter dash in 58.76, bettering her 59.28 earlier this season. Punahou girls relay teams out to find right groove

Punahou’s two track and field relay teams showed they meant business in an ILH meet last Saturday. Both surpassed the top times in Hawaii for 2019. The Buffanblu’s 4×100 team ran a 51.17, topping Campbell’s 51.49 from earlier in the season. Punahou’s 4×400 unit finished in 4:10.66 to get past Mililani’s 4:10.97. Baldwin’s Rey Cadiz and Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Chenoa Frederick will be chasing their own records at the Island Movers/HHSAA Track and Field State Championships in early May. And both have the top marks among Hawaii athletes in two individual events thus far in the 2019 season, according to athletic.net. Middle schoolers win high school track events at Moanalua

As unlikely as it sounds, two eighth graders won events at the Cal Track Ruby Tuesday Invitational on Saturday at Moanalua. Tatum Moku, a Damien student, pole vaulted 11 feet to win that event. Noah Payne of Seabury Hall ran a superb 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.70 seconds at the Cal Track Ruby Tuesday Invitational on Saturday at Moanalua. “I ran a 10.79 at the Yamamoto Invitational last week,” Payne said. “Wind (behind the runners’ backs) was a factor today.
