Kamehameha’s Tanner Moku wins Gatorade Hawaii award

Kamehameha junior Tanner Moku is the Gatorade Hawaii boys track and field athlete of the year, the Gatorade Company announced Monday. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track. Moku, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior, won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.54 seconds and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 38.72 at the state championship meet in May. Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Chenoa Frederick is the Gatorade Hawaii girls track and field athlete of the year, the Gatorade Company announced today. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track. Roosevelt’s Tyler Morimoto thrives as a three-time Special Olympics world gold medalist

Being a Special Olympics athlete and a varsity athlete is not a common combination. But it is Tyler Morimoto‘s combination. Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Chenoa Frederick had herself quite a weekend, laying claim to four individual events in the Island Movers/HHSAA Track and Field State Championships in rainy War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui. Seabury Hall’s Chloe Gangnath doubled up with victories in the 800-meter dash and the 1500 in the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui. Saint Louis’ Roman Wilson and Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Chenoa Frederick won the boys and girls 100-meter dash finals at the Island Movers/HHSAA Track and Field State Championships on Saturday at rainy War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui. Wilson ran a 10.68 seconds, which is five-hundredths of a second slower than the state-meet mark of 10.63. Kamehameha’s Tanner Moku upset Baldwin’s Rey Cadiz for the 110-meter hurdles title at the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui. Moku finished in 14.54 seconds and won a close race with a late kick. Cadiz ran a 14.60. Cadiz was the defending champion, finishing last year’s trials in 14.20. Rey Cadiz, Tanner Moku and Saint Louis relay team set track state records

Three records were set Friday in the trials of the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships. Baldwin’s Rey Cadiz broke his own record in the 110-meter hurdles, running it in 14.19 seconds. That was one-hundredth of a second faster than the 14.20 he ran in last year’s trials.
