Yasumi leads East’s assault on swim records

Meet records fell at a frantic pace in the OIA East swimming and diving championships at Kalani on Saturday. Nine marks fell. No records fell at the West championships a day earlier. Lileikis sets record at Dorothy Aki Invitational

Punahou’s Aukai Lileikis set a meet record in winning the 200-yard individual medley on the final day of the 39th Dorothy Aki/Kalani Invitational. Lileikis improved on his time of 1:50.14 in Tuesday’s preliminaries with a 1:49.01 on Wednesday. He broke the previous record set by ‘Iolani’s Kacy Johnson in 2010. Lileikis also won the 100-yard backstroke and swam on Punahou’s victorious 400 freestyle relay team  to help the Buffanblu finish atop the team standings. Kalani Invitational swimming results

Punahou’s Aukai Lilekis and Lia Foster were double winners on the first day of the Dorthy Aki / Kalani Invitational on Tuesday. The finals are expected to run on Wednesday at around 2 p.m. Lilekis win the 100 back and 200 IM while Foster qualified first in the 100 free and 100 back. Punahou freshman Tyler Kawakami and Moanalua sophomore Aimee Iwamoto also qualified first in two events. Here are the results from the first day: kalani swimming


Punahou’s Lileikis commits to Cal

Punahou senior Aukai Lileikis gave his oral commitment to swim for Cal next year, according to Swimswam.com. Lileikis, who is also a member of the Aulea Swim Club, is gearing up for his senior season with the Buffanblu. Lileikis has three 2016 Olympic Trials qualifying times — in the 100 freestyle (50.65 seconds), the 200 free (50.65) and the 200 individual medley (2:04.29). Campbell swimmers get late start

The Campbell High swim team is on dry land, so to speak. Due to a delay in payment to the owners of the pool that the Sabers use to practice, the team has not begun working out for the upcoming season. Ideally, Campbell would have started practice in mid-October to prepare for preseason meets that run this weekend through December and the regular season and postseason that goes from January to mid-February. This might be the golden age of high school swimming. Kanoa Kaleoaloha will be the fifth swimmer in the last three years inducted into the Enterprise / HHSAA Hall of Honor at Dole Cannery Square’s Pomaikai Ballroom on June 7. He will be inducted with Mid-Pacific’s Lena Hayakawa, the second straight year multiple swimmers have been inducted. Swimming is an individual sport, but Lena Hayakawa became the first from Mid-Pacific’s strong program to be inducted into the Hall of Honor by keeping team in mind. Hayakawa will be enshrined with 11 others on June 7 at the Dole Cannery Square’s Pomaikai Ballroom. It’s not as if Hayakawa is not the state’s fastest female swimmer, because she has been since teammate Summer Harrison and fellow Hall of Honor inductee Jasmine Mau of Punahou graduated last year. Mau scores for Cal at NCAA championship

Punahou graduate Jasmine Mau, now a freshman at California, contributed to the Golden Bears’ lead at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a 13-place finish in the 100 butterfly on Friday in Greensboro, N.C. Mau advanced out of the preliminaries with a time of  52.03 seconds, then posted a time of 52.17 seconds in the B final.
