Four individual and three relay records were set at the OIA swimming championships held Monday at the K. Mark Takai Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center. Kalani snapped Roosevelt’s three-year streak of team titles on the boys side, claiming the Falcons’ first league championship in boys swimming. Punahou sets 2 records at ILH championships

Punahou senior Alexa Phillips led her school’s 400 freestyle relay team to one of the oldest records on the ILH’s books on Saturday. Phillips teamed with juniors Nohea Lileikis, Chanel Ng and Sydnee Whitty to cover the distance in 3:30.79 at Punahou’s pool. Their time beat Punahou’s record from 2007 by legendary names Michelle Yoshida, Rachel Cote, Brittany Beauchan and Christel Simms. They put up a time of 3:33.54. Punahou took the boys and girls team titles at the K Mark Takai State Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday, fueled by individual performances by Sydnee Whitty and Lia Foster, who won every event they entered. Pac-Five swimmer Albert Zhi — a native of China — committed to Georgia Tech this week, according to his club coach and legal guardian Jialin “Sunny” Sun of Sun-shine Aquatics. MJ Mao led an impressive record haul at the ILH Swimming and Diving championships at Punahou on Saturday, writing his name on the all time list four times to give him a total of five. Mao took part in the 200 medley relay, and 400 free relay on Saturday, both of them league records. Kalani’s DongJin Hwang finished his remarkable swimming career with two more gold medals at the Oahu Interscholastic Association championships Saturday at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Complex. All told, Hwang has 10 total gold medals in his collection. Hwang also topped his 500-yard freestyle record twice over the weekend.
