Perhaps the youngest team in the state, Campbell was flying high through preseason with freshman ace Taryn Irimata dazzling and hypnotizing batters at the plate. Then it happened. In 2010 Campbell won its first state softball crown. On this date in 2011, the Sabers added an OIA title to the collection. Kawehi Kahana hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Summer Palipti made it hold up as the Sabers beat Kailua 2-1 to earn their first OIA championship since 1992. On this day in 2010, Katie Manuma limited Waianae to four hits and Campbell stayed perfect with a 5-1 win over the Seariders. Manuma also had two hits including a double. The Sabers lost their perfect mark with a loss to Leisha Liilii and Castle in the semifinals of the OIA playoffs when the Knights roughed up Manuma for six runs in 5 1/3 innings. APRIL 15, 2019: Punahou clinches state berth in softball

On this day a year ago, D’Asha Saiki doubled and scored in the eighth inning to earn Punahou an 8-7 victory over Iolani and its second straight state berth. The Buffanblu went on to win the ILH but fell short of the state title with a 12-4 thumping by Leilehua in the semifinals. Iolani picked things up for the ILH, though, beating the Mules 17-2 in the state final. The Raiders scored 50 runs in four games.

One of the most intriguing softball seasons in Hawaii history was cut short, perhaps just temporarily, but may have ended with two powerhouses from the OIA West sharing the throne. What’s new? Kamehameha opens at No. 1 in Star-Advertiser Softball Top 10

The 2020 softball season may turn out to have the most parity of any in Hawaii high school history. It begins with Kamehameha at the top of the Star-Advertiser Softball Top 10. Kamehameha (5-0, 2-0 ILH) collected six of 10 first-place votes to establish a comfortable lead over OIA West powerhouse Kapolei.
