Defending Division II softball state champion St. Francis got a boost with the arrival of junior pitcher Shaylann Grace, a transfer from Konawaena. Grace helped the Wildcats reach the semifinals of the 2017 Division II state tournament. St. Francis rallied to edge Konawaena 8-7 and went on to capture the state title with a win over Kamehameha-Hawaii in the final. Roosevelt’s Mari Foster was named as the Hawaii Gatorade softball player of the year by the Gatorade Company recently. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. The 5-foot-7 senior outfielder and right-handed pitcher led the Rough Riders (15-3) to the Division I tournament play-in game.
