By Nick Abramo on February 9, 2019

It was one of those oh-oh moments. ‘Iolani was trying to clear the ball from its own end, but it went askew and right to Punahou’s Max Moonier, who trapped it and sent an 18-foot strike into the top left corner. It was the dagger that finally put the Raiders away. The goal seven minutes into overtime by the senior midfielder gave the Buffanblu a 1-0 win in the Division I final of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State […]

By Nick Abramo on February 7, 2019

‘Iolani delivered an impressive knockout of defending co-champion and top-seeded Hawaii Prep 2-1 on Thursday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. But there is much more to be done if the Raiders (12-2-1) want to return to the top of the Division I heap in The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships. ‘Iolani has nine D-I state titles under its belt, but the last one came five years ago. Standing in the way are three highly talented teams — […]

Kamehameha survives frantic ending for title

By Nick Abramo on February 2, 2019

A 1-0 lead in soccer can be precarious, and it was very much so Saturday night. Kamehameha wound up holding off a Campbell offensive flurry over the last 15 minutes for a 1-0 victory in the Division I final of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The upstart Sabers (12-5-1) came oh-so close to tying it up and sending it to overtime. Cheyenne Mattos‘ 35-yard direct kick early in the second half had […]
