Pearl City’s Sunshine Fontes is the Hawaii Gatorade girls soccer player of the year, the Gatorade Company announced Thursday. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. ‘Iolani senior Lincoln Oishi narrowly edged Punahou’s Max Moonier as the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State player of the year in boys soccer. Frank Baumholtz III coached Sunshine Fontes for four years at Pearl City and has seen her develop from a supremely talented freshman to an even more supremely talented senior leader.
