Sunshine Fontes is Hawaii Gatorade player of year for second time

Pearl City’s Sunshine Fontes is the Hawaii Gatorade girls soccer player of the year, the Gatorade Company announced Thursday. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. Fontes also won the award when she was a freshman in 2015-16. While playing forward, midfielder and defender, she scored 24 goals to lead the Chargers to the state Division I quarterfinals. Saint Louis’ Skyler Goo is Gatorade soccer player of year

Saint Louis’ Skyler Goo was chosen as the Gatorade Hawaii Boys Soccer Player of the Year, the Gatorade Company announced Thursday. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field The 5-foot-7, 135-pound senior forward scored 23 goals, leading the Crusaders (10-3-2) to the Division II state championship game this spring. The 2019 class of the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor includes three elite level basketball players, as well as a good number of neighbor island standouts. ‘Iolani senior Lincoln Oishi narrowly edged Punahou’s Max Moonier as the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State player of the year in boys soccer. Frank Baumholtz III coached Sunshine Fontes for four years at Pearl City and has seen her develop from a supremely talented freshman to an even more supremely talented senior leader.
