Anyone who follows Hawaii high school soccer knows that Kapolei has been zooming in on bigger and better things in the boys soccer world for quite some time. By Nick Abramo on January 26, 2019

Kalaheo has a long and rich soccer history. The titles these days, however, are a lot fewer and farther between. The Mustangs cashed in on the OIA Division II boys championship with a 3-1 victory over Waialua on Saturday night at Kaiser Stadium for their first crown since 2013. Maybe the school is about to become serious contenders at the league and state D-II level every year. A year ago, the Mustangs made it to states but lost to eventual […]

ILH coaches move quickly to simplify soccer schedule

By Nick Abramo on January 25, 2019

ILH soccer coaches were looking for a fix and they may get it quickly. The problem is an overload of matches to decide the league champion. It came to a head on Tuesday, when Kamehameha and ‘Iolani played for the girls title. Both coaches, Kristin Masunaga of the Raiders and Missy Moore of Kamehameha, were not thrilled that their teams were playing for the fourth time in seven days. It was, they told the media after the match, not an […]

By Nick Abramo on January 24, 2019

The field-goal kicker’s big moment didn’t quite add up to victory, but Mililani still found a way to get past Kalani 3-2 in the OIA boys soccer semifinals at Kaiser Stadium on Thursday night. Liam McGehee, who in the fall was a place-kicker for the state Open Division runner-up Trojans football team, put Mililani ahead 2-1 with about 11 minutes to go on a 50-yard free-kick blast that skimmed off the turf and bounded high into the left corner. Kalani, […]
