OIA-ILH interleague football to continue with Leilehua, Roosevelt moving up divisions

By Nick Abramo on March 5, 2020

OIA and ILH interleague football will continue with a full slate of games to be scheduled for the 2020 season, according to OIA football coordinator Harold Tanaka. And two schools — Leilehua and Roosevelt — are moving up a division. “It’s a go,” Tanaka said Thursday morning. The renewal of the highly popular, fan-friendly two-year pilot program was not a given, and multiple sources over the past few months told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that it was possible OIA principals would […]

Roosevelt’s rough road ends at same place

By Brian McInnis on November 24, 2019

Unfortunately for the Rough Riders, that’s exactly what happened on Saturday night at the Lunas’ Sue D. Cooley Stadium in a 35-0 loss to the three-time defending HHSAA Division II champions. Kui Kahooilihala’s team came in riding high on a 31-7 road win at Kamehameha-Hawaii in the first round. But when the Riders lost fumbles on their first […]

By Billy Hull on November 16, 2019

KEAAU >> Ever since Shepherd Kekahuna decided to attend Roosevelt for his senior season, he’s been hearing about one team in particular. “Since I transferred from St. Francis,” Kekahuna said. “They been talking about wanting to get Lahainaluna back, but they’re a good team. It’s going to be team versus team, a hard battle for both of us.” One day short of exactly one year since a 12-win OIA champion Roosevelt team went over to Maui and got blown out […]
