Trip swayed Pa‘ama to pick UW over USC

Kaimuki defensive lineman Evangelist “Sama” Pa‘ama announced his commitment to the University of Washington on Sunday, giving the Huskies a Division II recruit from Hawaii for the second straight recruiting class. Pa‘ama made his decision based on his successful recruiting trip there. Prior to that, he had his heart set on Southern California. Kapolei’s Bartolotti commits to Hawaii

Kapolei pitcher Cira Bartolotti gave an oral commitment to play for the University of Hawaii softball team, according to Hurricanes coach Keoke Behic. The Hurricanes are off to a 3-2 start in the OIA West, and Bartolotti, a junior transfer from Maui High, is an important part of the team. Two Crusaders listed in first 2020 recruiting rankings

Saint Louis teammates Jordan Botelho and Matt Sykes have made 247Sports’ first recruiting rankings for the class of 2020. Botelho, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound inside linebacker, is listed as the 114th overall prospect and the third-best inside linebacker. He came on strong in the second half of his sophomore season and made his presence known in a win over Punahou to clinch the ILH first-round title. Three of the top five offensive linemen who performed at The Opening in San Francisco over the weekend came from Hawaii. Lokahi Pauole, Kamehameha’s stout lineman, rated No. 3 overall. The other two top-five OL from the islands were Enokk Vimahi of Kahuku and Duke Clemens of Punahou. 7:30 p.m.: Kapolei’s Aaron Faumui, who had committed to UH just seven days ago, has signed with Virginia. Virginia beats out UH, Florida, Oregon, Nebraska among others. He says the No. 1 reason was the Virginia coaching staff. Former Kahuku running back Mark Atuaia, who is on the Virginia staff, played a big role in Faumui’s recruitment.
