By Hawaii Prep World on March 25, 2020

This call came out of nowhere, almost. When Blaine Hipa picked up his phone on Wednesday, he knew it might be a truly long-distance connection. What he didn’t expect was to have a scholarship offer from Tennessee. “Amazing. It’s crazy. It kind of motivates me to want to do more,” said Hipa, a sophomore quarterback who helped Campbell reach the Open Division state tournament last season. “It was a big surprise. I heard from Coach (Nanumi) Lolohea by phone two […]

The miles are many between Honolulu and Central New York. Dino Babers knows the distance, 4,816 miles in all — very well. So does Mike Cavanaugh and son, Blair. The former Hawaii linebacker and current Syracuse head coach, Babers, and former UH, current Syracuse offensive line coach, Cavanaugh, are on board with Blair, the quality control/special teams coach. They made Isaac Silva a happy young man on Sunday, offering him a preferred walk-on (PWO) opportunity. “My trainer, Marcus Kimura, he’s […]

Punahou OL Solatoa Moeai on patient process that led to Utah

By Paul Honda on February 5, 2020

He was there to support his teammates again. Solatoa Moeai had spent years battling for them on the gridiron, an offensive lineman with advantages in physical and cerebral capacities. Punahou went 10-2 with Moeai as a key blocker for a pass-heavy offense that evolved into more downhill running with Vincent Terrell in the backfield. Moeai committed to Utah in December, signing early and joining, among others, Saint Louis safety Kamo‘i Latu as a new Ute. On Wednesday morning, he spent […]
