Kahuku freshman Chansen Garcia lands offer from Navy

By Paul Honda on July 18, 2020

Chansen Garcia never thought about Annapolis before. Now, the Kahuku sophomore-to-be has a football scholarship offer from Navy. “(Navy) Coach Ken (Niumatalolo) saw my video. They called Coach Sterling (Carvalho), and he called my dad. It was shocking,” Garcia said. “My dad told my mom (Urnel). I thought they were joking with me at first. She was breaking down, so I was breaking down. It brought us to tears.” No mainland combines or camps. No varsity game video, though he […]

Sage Tolentino is a secret no more. The Star-Advertiser Boys Basketball All-State selection is now 7 feet, 1 inch tall, an inch taller than he was during Maryknoll’s state championship run last winter. According to Jack Pilgrim of Kentucky Sports Radio, the junior-to-be is drawing attention from Kentucky and Auburn this summer. Tolentino is currently spending time training with a program, Griffin Elite of Ohio, running with college and professional players. It was 96 degrees in Cincinnati on Wednesday as […]

Colorado offers scholarship to UNLV commit Cameron Friel

By Paul Honda on July 6, 2020

Cameron Friel is more than happy to prepare in the coming year for his destination. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Kailua quarterback committed to UNLV in mid-May, turning down offers from Navy, San Diego State, Nevada and Fresno State. That hasn’t stopped Colorado, however, which offered the senior-to-be a scholarship on Monday. “It’s kind of a 50-50 for both,” Friel said of Colorado and UNLV. “It’s a good feeling because it’s a Power-5 offer, the Pac-12, but it’s an awkward feeling. Other […]

Coronavirus can’t slow dow Punahou’s Tevarua Tafiti, who picks up 2nd Pac-12 offer

By Billy Hull on April 13, 2020

The coronavirus pandemic is forcing high school athletes to get creative with their workout time. For Punahou’s Tevarua Tafiti, that means working out at home with a backpack filled with whatever he can find. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore doesn’t have any weights, so he’s improvised with workouts using a backpack that he fills with yearbooks, old textbooks, anything he can get his hands on. He’s posted those workouts on social media. That work ethic is a big reason why the […]

By Jerry Campany on March 31, 2020

When Eddie Klaneski took his Damien football team to Washington to lose to Mt. Spokane in 2018, he was also giving three boys a glimpse of their future campus. Damien wide receiver Jarvis Natividad made his commitment to Whitworth University (Wash.) on Monday, a few hours after football and basketball teammate Jake Holtz did the same. ❗️COMMITTED❗️ • • Luke 6:38“Give, And It Shall Be Given To You”#GoPirates #JoinTheShip 🏴‍☠️ pic.twitter.com/rMYtSeXNgC — Jarvis Natividad (@j_natividad7) March 31, 2020 Unlike Holtz, […]

Damien’s Jake Holtz chooses Whitworth for basketball

By Jerry Campany on March 30, 2020

Having one Hawaii player on a men’s college basketball team is rare enough — Whitworth (Wash.) might soon have two. Damien star Jake Holtz tweeted on Monday that he has accepted a scholarship offer from the Pirates, joining Leilehua product Liam Fitzgerald. Holtz is the only two-time All-State basketball player for Damien, as well as being one of the ILH’s elite quarterbacks. He explored the possibility of playing both sports at the next level, but has probably thrown his last pass […]

UNLV offer makes it eight total for Punahou LB Kahanu Kia

By Hawaii Prep World on March 26, 2020

Kahanu Kia feels grateful, but he won’t lie, either. UNLV’s offer on Wednesday made it a well of mixed emotions during this COVID-19 lockdown. The Punahou junior has eight FBS scholarship offers, as well as two Ivy League schools, Dartmouth and Princeton. The momentum in the recruitment of the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker has picked up, but it was the cancellation of spring-break plans that were a downer. “We had a plan. This coronavirus thing has messed up a lot of […]
