New Radford head coach Passos looks ahead

By Nick Abramo on January 22, 2016

Lon Passos had a bit of a chuckle when he was told we at Hawaii Prep World heard he was the new Radford football coach. He knows what he’s in for, and he’s looking forward to it. As outgoing coach Fred Salanoa knew during his 13 years at the helm, it can be an all-consuming task to coach a high school football program. “It’s a bigger job now,” said Passos with a little bit of of a ‘what am I […]

Before stepping down on Monday, Salanoa spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Radford, where he led the Rams to the state Division II championship and the OIA D-II regular-season and playoff titles this season. His Rams also won the league D-II crown in 2005. Salanoa spoke glowingly about the players who he’s coached that have returned to make a difference. […]

Salanoa: ‘It will probably come down to wire’

By Paul Honda on November 17, 2015

In the frenzy of postseason football, the Radford Rams found another identity. The Rams (12-0) aren’t just a run-first, no-holds-barred-defensive minded team. When pushed to the limits, they can adjust on the fly. Saturday’s 48-46 win over Konawaena pushed Radford someplace a bit uncomfortable, yet the result was soothing.
