Waipahu’s late whirlwind finishes Pearl City

By Nick Abramo on October 22, 2016

Some day in the distant future when Waipahu players reminisce about this playoff win, they’ll recall the late flurry that got the deed done. This 13-7 victory over Pearl City on Friday night was by no means easy. The two teams traded mostly defensive blows all night — and it had the feel that it was going to overtime with a 7-all stalemate. But then things began to change. It was two defensive plays that got the ball rolling in Waipahu’s […]

By Hawaii Prep World on October 14, 2016

Seven games with major state tournament implications in most are on tap tonight on Oahu. It’s hard to imagine but Pearl City (5-2, 5-1 OIA D-II) is in the rare position of either finishing with the No. 1 seed in the OIA D-II playoffs with a win over Waialua (4-2, 4-2) or the No. 4 seed with a loss. The Chargers had a five-game winning streak snapped with a 20-17 loss last week to Kaimuki. Waialua has won four of […]

By Hawaii Prep World on October 7, 2016

It should be a fun weekend of football as the OIA Division I playoffs begin while the ILH regular season ends and the OIA D-II playoff race gets sorted out. Pearl City (5-1, 5-0 D-II) can clinch the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with a win over the Bulldogs (4-3, 4-2), who need a win to feel good about their playoff chances. A loss and a 4-3 Kaimuki team could be left out of […]

Pearl City ready to break in new field

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 5, 2016

Monday’s practice wasn’t exactly just another workout for the Pearl City football teams. The school’s artificial turf field was cleared for use earlier in the day and the Chargers varsity and junior varsity teams held their first practices on the new playing surface. “They were totally excited,” Pearl City coach Robin Kami said. Pearl City had played its previous two “home” games this season at Aiea. While work on the accompanying track continues, the school received clearance to use the […]
