GAME NIGHT 8/12: Kalani/Pearl City

By Hawaii Prep World on August 12, 2016

Week 2 of the Hawaii high school football season begins Friday with five games on Oahu and two others involving Oahu teams taking place on Maui. It was a critical game last season when Kalani knocked off Pearl City, 22-8, late in the season. The Falcons lost out on the playoffs via a tiebreaker while the Chargers finished one game out. The rematch takes place tonight at Aiea with a 7:30 p.m. approximate kickoff. It’s the opener for Kalani while […]

Chargers struggle to move ball in loss on Maui

By Hawaii Prep World on August 7, 2016

The one Oahu team to make a trip to the outer islands on opening weekend had a tough time at War Memorial Stadium. Division II Pearl City, which is now 3-8 since that excruciating overtime loss to Nanakuli in the 2014 OIA D-II title game, was shut out 29-0 by Lahainaluna on Saturday night. The Chargers were held to 54 total yards and only seven first downs by the MIL Lunas, which racked up 370 total yards of its own. […]

Waipahu and Pearl City to get FB upgrades

By Nick Abramo on July 28, 2016

Waipahu and Pearl City won’t be playing their home games on campus this football season. The sacrifice is well worth it, though. Both the Marauders’ and Chargers’ football stadiums are getting major upgrades, with Fieldturf and eight-lane tracks that meet Hawaii High School Athletic Association standards. Waipahu and Pearl City will play their home games at Aiea. “It’s long overdue, but worth the wait,” Waipahu head coach Bryson Carvalho said. “They were waiting for the rail work to be finished […]

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 22, 2015

After Waialua scored an electrifying go-ahead touchdown in Saturday’s OIA Division II game at Pearl City, lightning in the area forced the suspension of the contest at the Chargers’ field. Pearl City coach Robin Kami said he was informed the game is scheduled to resume at 6 p.m. Monday with Waialua leading 14-12 and 10:59 left in the fourth quarter. So the teams will gear up again Monday afternoon and Waialua will make the drive from the North Shore to […]

Pearl City’s Maneafaiga stands alone

By Billy Hull on August 15, 2015

Pearl City’s Joe Maneafaiga is going to have a tough time improving on his first game as Pearl City’s featured running back. The 5-food-10, 170-pound junior set the Chargers’ single-game rushing record with 217 yards in only three quarters of action to help Pearl City hold off a game Roosevelt squad 14-7 on Friday night in the OIA Division-II opener for both teams at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. Maneafaiga, who needed only 23 carries, broke Antoin Dewalt‘s mark of 216 yards […]

The Chargers have won the last three meetings by a combined score of 125-13. Roosevelt has won four in a row dating back to last season and is looking for its first five-game winning streak since 1999. Roosevelt’s junior varsity […]

Rivals Castle and Kailua get to renew series

By Nick Abramo on August 2, 2015

Circumstances fell into place for the Kailua vs. Castle football rivalry this year. The neighboring Windward-side schools did not play last year due to Oahu Interscholastic Association’s decision to move away from the East-West divisional alignment. When this year’s schedule came out, the Knights vs. Surfriders was not listed, either. But, things have changed since the original schedule was made and Castle visits Kailua on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for a regular-season nonleague game. Originally, Castle was scheduled to play […]
