Brennan to Moanalua possible, but not official

By Nick Abramo on March 16, 2016

Media reports that have Colt Brennan going to Moanalua as Na Menehune’s quarterbacks coach are premature. Yes, Brennan is interested in becoming an assistant to new head coach Savaii Eselu, and yes, Eselu wants him as his assistant. But the hire of the former University of Hawaii football star has not been finalized by the Moanalua administration. According to a Moanalua spokesman, senior-to-be quarterback Alakai Yuen has been working informally with Brennan, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate during his […]

By Nick Abramo on January 30, 2016

The Pro Bowl is Sunday and the Super Bowl is one week later, so you know what that means — the end of football season. So, before it’s too late, let’s catch up with a former Hawaii high school player who had perhaps the biggest season out of anyone from around here — Clemson defensive tackle Scott Pagano. Pagano and his Tigers were 45-40 losers to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game. He played four years at Moanalua, but […]

By Nick Abramo on October 21, 2015

Moanalua football head coach Jason Cauley is going back to Alabama and he hopes to bring some of Hawaii with him. He told Hawaii Prep World this week that what he learned about Hawaii and its people in his stay here will remain with him. He talked about how he’ll miss his players the most, mentioning major offensive weapon Michael Feliciano and top-notch quarterback Alakai Yuen as a few of the many he learned to love. “The players here, they […]

Moanalua, Mililani in another battle

By Paul Honda on October 16, 2015

The OIA’s most balanced conference (Blue) was often merciless for teams like Moanalua during the regular season. Last week’s 58-22 win at Leilehua demonstrated the strength of the playoff format, which allows all but the last-place teams of each conference to qualify for the playoffs. Alaka‘i Yuen‘s breakout season has yet to end. The junior has thrown 25 TD passes with just eight picks (2,286 yards) in nine games. Na Menehune continue to spread the ball around; seven players have […]

Moanalua thrives on the edge

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 10, 2015

Moanalua coach Jason Cauley figured Leilehua’s defensive front might make it tough for the Na Menehune ground game between the tackles. So he devised other ways to give Michael Feliciano room to roam. Held to 27 rushing yards on 13 carries, Feliciano was quarterback Alakai Yuen’s top target in Moanalua’s 58-22 win at Leilehua on Friday in the first round of the OIA Division I playoffs. Feliciano caught 11 passes for 131 and two touchdowns in Moanalua’s first win over […]
