The 2019 class of the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor includes three elite level basketball players, as well as a good number of neighbor island standouts. Kalina Obrey of Kamehameha, the Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball All-State player of the year, was voted into the Hall by the selection committee. So was boys player of the year Kameron Ng of St. Francis. He is the first — and only — boy to be inducted from the school, which will close its […]

Dillon Gabriel calls UCF ‘the best fit for me’

By Paul Honda on December 19, 2018

There is little time to waste, and that’s perfectly fine with Dillon Gabriel. The Mililani senior signed his football future to the University of Central Florida, spurning offers from Georgia and USC among others. He signed the letter of intent at precisely 12:30 p.m. in the library of Mililani High School. He was even there near the library entrance to greet teammates, friends, family and media. Everything went smoothly and quickly, much like Gabriel ran a no-huddle, run-pass option offense […]

USC, Georgia, UCF in running for Mililani’s Gabriel

By Paul Honda on December 10, 2018

A simple life is one Dillon Gabriel appreciates. More so in times like these. The Mililani senior quarterback visited Georgia over the weekend. He also has an offer from UCF, where former Mililani standout McKenzie Milton had a perfect 22-0 record as a starting QB before suffering a leg injury two weeks ago. Today, Gabriel will possibly meet up with USC head coach Clay Helton and new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Gabriel has seen his share of what Kingsbury developed […]

York: Scoreboard doesn’t define Mililani

By Nick Abramo on November 25, 2018

It was a not-so-good showing on the scoreboard for coach Rod York‘s Mililani Trojans on Saturday night in the Open Division final of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships. But they’ll be able to look back at the 38-17 loss to the top-ranked Saint Louis Crusaders and know they didn’t go down with a whimper. They were in striking distance, 14-3, at halftime. In the third quarter, things got worse in a hurry as Saint Louis (11-0) went up […]

Saint Louis 38, Mililani 17 Saint Louis (11-0) is the first school to win three straight state-tournament titles in the top-tier division since the tourney format debuted in 1999. Its 26-game winning streak ties Kahuku for the third-longest in state history. Saint Louis blows by Mililani 38-17 and completes the three-peat to finish its season 11-0. Remember this team, Hawaii.
