The shot heard throughout the week

By Paul Honda on September 29, 2014

A three-play sequence to end the first half of the Mililani-Farrington football game on Saturday spelled bad news for both teams. In the end, Mililani defensive back Ramsey Tacadena suffered an injured elbow moments after intercepting a pass. Farrington quarterback Montana Liana, ejected for a late hit on Tacadena, faces a one-game suspension. “(Officials) made the right call. It was a hit on a defenseless player,” said OIA chief official Jim Beavers, who saw the game video later. Liana’s frustration […]

A modern Trojan army: No defense stops it

By Paul Honda on September 28, 2014

Six weeks into the regular-season slate, this much is clear: the Mililani Trojans punish those who are imperfect. Against another strong defensive unit, Mililani rolled up 580 total yards: 302 rushing yards on 38 carries, and 278 by air. Farrington is the latest example of how the state’s No. 2- ranked team can frustrate and pacify so many opponents. Saturday’s 41-14 win by the men of Troy — lifting Mililani to 6-0 in OIA Blue play (7-0 overall) and sinking […]

Sasaoka’s PAT kick gave the Govs a 7-6 lead with […]

Manu ‘leaning’ toward Oregon

By Nick Abramo on September 22, 2014

Mililani senior defensive tackle Rex Manu confirmed Monday that he is not committed to any school at this point. He was once orally committed to Stanford, but recently de-committed from the Cardinal. There was recent speculation that Manu conmitted to Oregon, but he said that is not the case after Monday’s practice. “I was watching a game with an Oregon hat on (the Ducks’ win over Michigan State on Sept. 5, during a recruiting visit) and somebody took pictures of […]

When Trojans look like Ducks

By Paul Honda on September 20, 2014

Rod York was a defensive lineman at UH. He’s now the engineer of a offense that scores 53 points per game. That’s what being an observant, logical and intuitive student of the game can do. For two quarters, his Mililani Trojans were stifled. Sure, they had 15 points on the scoreboard at James Campbell High School. But if not for one of Tielu Mamea’s three interceptions, which led to a Trojans touchdown shortly before halftime, the men of Troy could […]
