Liberty Patriots to play Saint Louis, Mililani

Liberty High School of Henderson, Nev., will play two Hawaii football powerhouses, Mililani and Saint Louis, on consecutive weeks in the upcoming season. The Patriots, who went 10-3 and lost to Bishop Gorman in the Nevada Division I state semifinals a year ago, will play Saint Louis at Aloha Stadium on Aug. 29. The start time is TBA. Perese, Milton, Timoteo in Mililani recruiting news

Manaia Perese, a 6-foot-3, 277-poud defensive lineman and a 2013 Mililani graduate, has been offered scholarships to play football at Kansas and Tulsa, according 247sports.com and his high school coach Rod York. Perese, who also goes by Mana or Mene, played his senior season in high school in 2012 and has been with both Weber State and Snow College since then. Morikawa in Jackson State QB competition

Former Mililani quarterback Jarin Morikawa is competing with two others for the starting job at Jackson State, according to his high school coach, Rod York. Timmy Chang, the former Saint Louis and University of Hawaii star quarterback, is the offensive coordinator for the Tigers. Morikawa, the 6-foot, 185-pounder from the Mililani Class of 2013 and a transfer from UNLV, went 6-for-7 for 43 yards and a touchdown in Jackson State’s spring game in April.

It’s already been quite a week for Mililani junior Vavae Malepeai. The 6-foot, 200-pound running back received football scholarship offers from national powerhouse Oregon and Pac 12 mainstay USC. He now has 17 offers in all. USC offered on Monday and Oregon followed suit on Tuesday. He tweeted the news earlier. Kalakaua Timoteo is taking no breaks, not even with basketball season only recently over. On the gridiron, the Mililani junior continues to do work. He went to the Nike Opening in Oakland, Calif. over the weekend and was featured in a video by Under The Radar. Timoteo, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, was a Star-Advertiser All-State first-team selection as a wide receiver last fall. He had 55 receptions for 988 yards and 11 touchdowns. Malepeai’s 15th offer: Nebraska

Maybe it’s the Mike Cavanaugh effect. Nebraska became the 15th FBS school to make a football scholarship offer to Mililani junior Vavae Malepeai recently. The Cornhuskers have Cavanaugh, the former UH offensive line coach on staff, and Nebraska was represented recently by Cavanaugh and other staffers during a tour of the islands.
