LIVE BLOG: Mililani 62, Hilo 18, F

By Billy Hull on November 6, 2015

For the first time in almost two full years, Mililani takes the field tonight coming off a loss to a team from Hawaii. The Trojans had a 22-game winning streak against Hawaii teams end in a 20-7 loss to Kahuku last week in the OIA title game. Freshman QB Dillon Gabriel was lost with a broken collarbone and the Trojans have called up freshman Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi, who coach Rod York said will start tonight. However, reigning Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state offensive […]

Mililani to start another freshman QB

By Nick Abramo on November 4, 2015

Rod York has had to solidify the quarterback position more this season than he has in his whole time as the Mililani coach. The line of succession through the years from Trent McKinney to Jarin Morikawa to McKenzie Milton seemed — to outsiders anyway — smooth and seamless. But, when Milton — the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State player of the year as a junior — went down with a broken AC joint in his right, throwing shoulder late in the regular season, York turned […]

Kahuku-Mililani: twists, turns … breaks

By Nick Abramo on October 31, 2015

When Vavae Tata arrived on the North Shore to become Kahuku’s head coach in the spring, Hirkley Latu didn’t know what to expect. The Red Raiders safety who now plays linebacker was part of a special team a year ago, a team that was defense-heavy with an offense that struggled. They went far, but first-year head coach Lee Leslie returned to the mainland and Latu was nervous that whoever came in might ruin a good thing. Latu’s worries were over […]

LIVE BLOG: Kahuku 20, Mililani 7, F

By Billy Hull on October 30, 2015

The time for talking is over. The top two teams in the OIA all season collide Friday night at Aloha Stadium as No. 2 Kahuku faces No. 3 Mililani for the OIA D-I title. The Red Raiders had never lost to the Trojans until 2013, when Mililani beat Kahuku in the OIA semifinals. A year later, the Trojans were better than the Red Raiders again, winning the OIA title by a 20-7 margin. As pointed out here Friday, if the […]
