By Nick Abramo on December 14, 2015

Mililani offensive lineman Andru Tovi tweeted Monday that he orally committed to Utah State. Tovi, a 6-foot-3, 325-pound guard, was part of the Trojans’ state Division I championship team in 2014, when he was named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State first team, and Mililani’s state runner-up team in 2013. Mililani made the state semifinals in 2015, Tovi’s senior season. Tovi senior highlights are here: http://bit.ly/1m2QDPf.

By Nick Abramo on December 7, 2015

Friends and family of Vavae Malepeai gathered at the Mililani High School gym on Monday to celebrate the running back’s selection to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Malepeai, Hawaii’s all-time leading rusher and a three-year starter at running back for the Trojans, is one of close to 100 seniors across the country who have been selected to play in the game at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Jan. 9. Malepeai spoke to the crowd and thanked all of the […]

Trojans’ Malepeai wishes finalists ‘the best’

By Nick Abramo on November 17, 2015

Mililani’s Vavae Malepeai etched his name into the Hawaii high school history books with his rushing exploits for the Trojans the past three falls. Malepeai, who broke Joe Igber of ‘Iolani’s all-time rushing record in last week’s Division I state semifinal loss to Saint Louis (4,549 to 4,428), has lots of friends and relatives on both teams in the No. 2 Kahuku (12-0) vs. top-ranked Crusaders (9-1) championship game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium. Malepeai is not rooting […]

Final Four: What Have We Learned?

By Paul Honda on November 14, 2015

This dang rain hasn’t stopped. It stalls though. It holds up every now and then. But tonight? It hasn’t really stopped. At times, the wet stuff fell from the Halawa sky relentlessly. Not enough to create huge puddles right away. Just wet enough to make any receiver think twice about fundamentals. And more than moisture, there was wind. It was constant from the mauka end zone to the makai, especially early in the day when Waianae and Kahuku played. By […]

Mililani’s Malepeai is all-time rushing king

By Billy Hull on November 13, 2015

Mililani senior running back Vavae Malepeai is Hawaii’s new all-time rushing king. The 6-foot, 205-pound University of Oregon commit surpassed Joe Igber‘s 17-year record of 4,428 career rushing yards on a 15-yard run in the third quarter of Friday night’s Division I state semifinal game against Saint Louis. Malepeai, who also holds the rushing touchdowns record with 71, did it in his 37th game and on his 674th carry. He had 20 carries for 131 yards in the first half […]

Saint Louis’ D was last stop on road for Mililani

By Nick Abramo on November 13, 2015

Mililani’s reign as Division I football state champion is over. What was supposed to be a shootout at Aloha Stadium against the top-ranked Saint Louis Crusaders ended up being a one-sided affair. Sure, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Saint Louis’ offense had its way, but don’t discount the contribution by the defense in the Crusaders’ 56-30 victory in the Division I semifinals of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships. On the defensive side of the ball, the Crusaders (9-1) were […]

LIVE BLOG: Saint Louis 56, Mililani 30, F

As Bruce Buffer would say, “IIIIIIIIITT’SSSSS TIIIIMMMEEEEE.” The defending state champion Mililani Trojans and the reigning ILH champion Saint Louis Crusaders will play with the winner facing undefeated Kahuku next Friday night in the D-I title game of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships. Tons of storylines to watch here. Obviously, the Mililani threesome of McKenzie Milton, Vavae Malepeai and Kalakaua Timoteo will fight to play one more game. Malepeai begins the night 137 yards behind Joe Igber for […]
