The battle afoot matters to Men of Troy

By Paul Honda on August 14, 2016

He loves defense. True, his meticulously-engineered, high-powered offenses in recent years entered ridonkulous territory, but when Mililani coach Rod York knuckles down on the inner workings of daily preparation, the Trojans understand full well that means tightening the screws and hammering every nail that stands out. Seventh-ranked Mililani (1-0) took it one step further, perhaps, on Saturday night in a 42-7 win over Kaiser. It’s now special teams that gets as much sweat equity. “We spend as much time on […]

GAME NIGHT 8/13: Kaiser/Mililani

By Hawaii Prep World on August 13, 2016

Six games are on tap Saturday night on Oahu while both St. Francis and Kamehameha hit the neighbor islands for nonleague contests. The defending OIA runner-up Mililani Trojans got in a quarter of work last week against Saint Louis before the lights went out. They hope the problem is fixed as they return to John Kauinana Stadium to host the Kaiser Cougars, who opened the season with a 28-21 win over Roosevelt to give head coach Arnold Martinez a win […]

By Hawaii Prep World on August 6, 2016

After a wild opening night in prep football Friday, we have three games scheduled for Saturday on Oahu. It’s going to be hard to top Friday night’s classic between Waianae and Kamehameha, but ranked teams from the ILH and OIA square off again as No. 2 Saint Louis travels to face No. 5 Mililani at John Kauinana Stadium. It’s the season debut for both teams and the first look in 2016 at Saint Louis senior QB Tua Tagovailoa, who is […]

Scrimmage to Ponder: Kamehameha-Mililani

By Nick Abramo on August 1, 2016

Well, it was just a scrimmage, and that means most everybody on the bench played. But you can learn a lot of stuff. You can see where teams are at with your own eyes. For instance, you can finally meet Kamehameha first-year head coach Abu Maafala, who you’ve only spoken to on the phone. You can learn what he is up to as the Warriors head man. Then, you can get reacquainted with the guy you’ve known for about six […]

By Jerry Campany on July 30, 2016

The Warriors visited the Trojans for a scrimmage on Saturday, both coaches and a couple of players took time out to give their thoughts. Kamehameha kicks off its season with a home date against Waianae next Friday and Mililani starts it up for real the next night when Saint Louis comes to visit.
