Milton and UCF fall short in double overtime

Mililani’s McKenzie Milton, in his first college start, got UCF into double overtime against Big Ten opponent Maryland, but the Knights lost 30-24 to the Terrapins in Orlando on Saturday. Milton, a true freshman, went 21-for-36 for 260 yards in the contest, including a 4-yard touchdown to Dontravious Wilson. Regulation time ended at 17-17. Former Mililani star quarterback McKenzie Milton will be the starter for UCF in its game against Maryland on Saturday, according to Mark Milton, McKenzie’s dad. “UCF coches told McKenzie that he is starting tomorrow night versus Maryland,” Mark Milton texted Hawaii Prep World on Friday. “They are not going to redshirt him.” A freshman at UCF this fall, McKenzie Milton led the Trojans to the Division I state championship two seasons ago. After playing two games in five days, Mililani will have close to two weeks to recharge for its next appearance. Last week’s approach of Hurricane Lester pushed the Trojans’ game against Kapolei to Monday. Following the 40-12 defeat to the visiting Hurricanes, Mililani had just three days to regroup before taking the field Friday at Nanakuli.
