GAME NIGHT 9/5: Farrington/Leilehua

By Hawaii Prep World on September 5, 2016

Monday night football hits the 808 state for the second time in as many years. Last year, it was lightning that forced two games to be postponed to a Monday. This year, the threat of Hurricane Lester has given us three Monday night games on the slate. No. 7 Farrington (2-1, 2-1 OIA Red) is coming off a close loss to Mililani while Leilehua (1-3, 1-2) picked up its first win of the season against Nanakuli last week. History: Leilehua […]

Leilehua finds offensive groove in second half

By Nick Abramo on August 28, 2016

After starting the season with three straight losses to Top 10 teams, Leilehua didn’t exactly get a break for its fourth game. It’s not easy going into Nanakuli Valley to face the Golden Hawks and the Mules found themselves in a close ballgame Friday night, leading by just seven points at the half. Nine players caught at least one pass for Leilehua (1-3, 1-2 OIA Red), which put together a 27-point third quarter on the way to a 48-13 victory. […]

By Hawaii Prep World on August 27, 2016

Another matchup of top-10 teams highlights the five-game slate Saturday on Oahu. The last two winless teams in the OIA Red battle in the valley as Nanakuli hosts Leilehua. The Mules have won the last four meetings but this is the first game between the two schools since 2009. Nanakuli’s 14-7 win over Leilehua in 2003 is its only victory against the Mules dating back to 1983. Live updates of the 6:30 p.m. kickoff to follow below: 9:22: Game is […]

Victor a bright spot for Leilehua

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 21, 2016

It’s been a rough opening stretch for Leilehua with three losses to opponents ranked in the Star-Advertiser’s top 10. But even in the wake of a 44-13 loss to No. 9 Kapolei on Saturday, Nolan Tokuda could smile about the performance of defensive end Braxton Victor. The junior sparked the Leilehua defense early in the game with sacks of Kapolei quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa on both of the Hurricanes’ first two possessions. Victor caught Tagovailoa again in the third period and […]

GAME NIGHT 8/20: Kapolei/Leilehua

By Hawaii Prep World on August 20, 2016

Six more games on Oahu scheduled for Saturday including a couple of afternoon tilts involving neighbor island teams. Let’s get to it. The Hurricanes dropped from No. 5 to No. 9 in this week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 after losing 35-14 to Waianae. The Mules play their third ranked team in as many weeks to start the season, but hey, at least it isn’t No. 1 Kahuku and No. 3 Punahou? History: Leilehua leads the all-time series 7-3 but the […]

Leilehua shows fight despite brutal schedule

By Billy Hull on August 13, 2016

Three teams ranked in the top five in 15 days to start the season? Even ‘Iolani looks at Leilehua’s schedule and says, ‘dang, that’s tough.’ The Mules took one on the chin in their season opener last week against Punahou, losing 70-9. Their reward? An OIA cross-division opener against the defending state champion Kahuku Red Raiders on Friday night at Hugh Yoshida Stadium. Kahuku jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead scoring touchdowns on offense and defense to start the […]

GAME NIGHT 8/12: Kahuku/Leilehua

By Hawaii Prep World on August 12, 2016

Week 2 of the Hawaii high school football season begins Friday with five games on Oahu and two others involving Oahu teams taking place on Maui. The defending state champion Kahuku Red Raiders open the year on a 13-game winning streak and have never lost under second-year head coach Vavae Tata. This is just the fifth time since 2002 Kahuku has opened the season against an OIA team. Leilehua’s last win against Kahuku came in the 2008 state tournament when […]
