Versatile Leilehua QBs share the load

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 1, 2016

Leilehua coach Nolan Tokuda said the Mules had two starting quarterbacks prior to their matchup with Mililani. Sure enough, Kona Andres and Kaleo Aloha Piceno — Nos. 1 and 2 on the Leilehua roster — lined up side-by-side in the Leilehua backfield on the Mules’ first play from scrimmage on Friday. Andres ended up taking the first two snaps but alternated with Piceno in a 13-play opening drive. Andres went on to handle the bulk of the passing duties while throwing […]

GAME NIGHT 9/30: Mililani/Leilehua

By Hawaii Prep World on September 30, 2016

The regular season begins to wind down Friday night with the OIA Division I playoffs set to begin next week. So much on the line tonight as the Central Oahu rivalry is renewed between No. 7 Mililani and Leilehua. The Trojans (4-2, 4-2 OIA Red) clinch a state tournament berth and a first-round bye in the OIA playoffs with a win, but could drop as far as fifth and potentially have to play on the road in the first round […]

Leilehua and Mililani renew Central Oahu rivalry

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 29, 2016

Separated by just five miles along Kamehameha Highway, it took a change in division alignments to keep Mililani and Leilehua apart the last two football seasons. Reunited in the OIA Red this season, the Trojans and Mules close the regular season on Friday with a renewal of the Central Oahu rivalry. Leilehua leads the series 21-15-1 since its inception in 1975 although Mililani has a 12-5 edge since 2000 and won both meetings in 2013 before the two-year hiatus. Along […]

Piceno takes charge on senior night

By Stan Lee on September 17, 2016

Kaleo Aloha Piceno did about everything to lead his seniors to a win on senior night. The versatile Piceno accounted for three touchdowns in Friday’s 41-14 win over Castle. He ran for a touchdown, threw for another and caught a scoring pass from fellow quarterback Kona Andres. “He does it all for us,” said Leilehua coach Nolan Tokuda. Two of Piceno’s touchdowns came during a 21-0 run in the first half. He hauled in an 80-yard pass from Andres and […]

GAME NIGHT 9/16: Castle/Leilehua

By Hawaii Prep World on September 16, 2016

Only two ranked teams are in action Friday night in a seven-game slate scheduled for Oahu. Don’t look now but Leilehua has won two of three since that brutal 0-3 start against three top-five teams. The Mules (2-4, 2-3) and the Castle Knights (2-3, 1-3) have an important game Friday. The winner is pretty much assured a playoff berth minus a crazy finish to the regular season. A Castle loss would turn next week’s game against Nanakuli into a must-win […]

Piceno does it all for Leilehua

By Christian Shimabuku on September 11, 2016

There’s a reason Kaleo Aloha Piceno is listed as an athlete on the Leilehua roster. The senior lined up at quarterback, running back and wide receiver in the Mules’ 37-15 victory over Kailua on Saturday night, and has done so throughout the season. “I’m just blessed that the coaches trust in me,” Piceno said. “I’m just able to lead these guys and they’re making me look good. That’s how I see it.” Piceno displayed the skills necessary for each position […]
