By Hawaii Prep World on September 16, 2016

Tagovailoa leads the state with 1,506 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. HISTORY: Kapolei leads the all-time series 5-2 but lost a 20-6 game to the Surfriders […]

When then is now: Taulia the Time Traveler

By Paul Honda on September 6, 2016

The numbers paint part of the picture: 31 completions in 54 attempts for 379 yards, four touchdowns and no picks. Eighth-ranked Kapolei’s 40-12 win at No. 4 Mililani on Monday night is a reminder that given the right personnel, the four-wide offense is a relentless, productive machine that can travel through time. Taulia Tagovailoa, pocket passer, is a maestro on the gridiron. He’s a throwback of sorts, not to the eras of the ancient single-wing, veer or wishbone formations. He […]

By Hawaii Prep World on September 5, 2016

No. 4 Mililani (3-0, 3-0 OIA Red) puts itself in the drivers seat in the OIA Red with a victory over No. 8 Kapolei (2-1, 3-1). The Hurricanes have scored at least 38 […]

Kapolei’s Tagovailoa throws for 403 yards in win

By Christian Shimabuku on August 27, 2016

In an alternate universe, perhaps June Jones would have been opening his second stint as the University of Hawaii’s head coach against California in Sydney, Australia, on Friday night. Instead, Kapolei’s first-year offensive coordinator mentored quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa to victory in Kaneohe, leading the sophomore to another quality performance. Tagovailoa finished 30-for-44 with 403 yards, three passing touchdowns and one interception, executing Jones’ run-and-shoot offense at a high level as the Hurricanes were 40-21 victors at Castle. Tagovailoa recorded his […]

By Paul Honda on August 22, 2016

(Update 8 p.m. — Adds comments by Cal Lee.) Response to the news that the change to the state football tournament format — to take effect immediately — was slow this afternoon. A Star-Advertiser breaking news story shared the announcement by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association that the state tournament format would be altered as soon as this season. Open Division would be comprised of four OIA teams and two ILH squads. There would still be Division I and […]
