By Billy Hull on July 29, 2017

Two weeks ago, the rich got richer. Kapolei head coach Darren Hernandez, who led his team to a program-best 10-3 record and a spot in the semifinals of the state tournament in the Open Division last year, already felt great about his defense. Six returning starters hold at least one Division I scholarship offer, and despite losing standouts Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, Leonard Lee and Omar Mareko to graduation, the Kapolei defense has a chance on paper to be even better this […]

Kapolei adds Saint Louis transfer at QB

By Dave Reardon on June 12, 2017

Kapolei suffered a huge, at least somewhat unexpected, loss with record-setting quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa’s departure to Alabama earlier this year to be closer to his brother, Tua. Taulia posted incredible numbers as a freshman and sophomore and seemed well on his way to the greatest statistical career for a quarterback in Hawaii high school history. And it wasn’t just all numbers: Tagovailoa led Kapolei to a win over Punahou in the state tournament’s open division semifinals last year. But coach […]

Kapolei, which plays in OIA Division I (and is eligible for Open Division), makes it a shorter commute for Buelow. Damien plays football in Division II of the ILH. “He’s off the charts, a […]
