Akana grew up playing for the Laie Park Red Raiders football program, and now follows the footsteps of his sisters, Braelyn and Keonilei, to Kamehameha. The 6-3, 195-pound football/basketball athlete chatted after […]

Kamehameha OL Lokahi Pauole signs with UCF

By Paul Honda on February 6, 2019

It’s not common, not at all, for roughly $1.4 million worth of scholarships (and financial aid) to be in the same room from the same high school on a tiny island. Among the seven signees at the letter-of-intent ceremony at Kamehameha Schools on Wednesday morning: offensive lineman Lokahi Pauole, the Star-Advertiser All-State performer. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound senior signed with UCF, joining Mililani standout quarterback Dillon Gabriel. “Florida’s so far away from home, but it felt like home, especially with Dillon […]

The first of two final picks for the Polynesian Bowl from Hawaii has been made today with Kamehameha defensive back/linebacker Tiger Peterson earning an invite to the annual high school football all-star game. The 2019 Polynesian Bowl will take place Saturday, Jan. 19, at Aloha Stadium. Peterson is the fourth player from Kamehameha selected, […]

By Billy Hull on October 25, 2018

Kamehameha defensive lineman Kupono Blake has been selected to the 2019 Polynesian Bowl. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Air Force commit has had a breakout season as a senior, putting himself in the mix for the state’s defensive player of the year award given out by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser in December. He finished the season with four sacks in his final three games, including two in a playoff loss to Punahou. Blake is the third Polynesian Bowl All Star from Kamehameha, joining […]

CLOSING THE BOOK: Kamehameha Warriors

By Billy Hull on October 23, 2018

The Kamehameha Warriors again came up just short of finishing .500 for the first time under third-year head coach Abu Ma’afala, and the numbers make it pretty clear where they need to get better in order to contend. On defense, Ma’afala has made a huge difference since replacing Doug Cosbie prior to the start of the 2016 season. Kamehameha allowed 30.2 points per game against ILH competition in Cosbie’s final year and 31.2 points per game in Ma’afala’s first year. […]

Punahou shuts out Kamehameha on way to ILH title game

By Paul Honda on October 19, 2018

This was one of the strangest 35-0 games in recent memory. No. 2 Punahou (7-2, 6-2) advanced to the ILH Open Division championship game with a lopsided win over No. 8 Kamehameha (4-6, 3-5), but it was defense instead of the usual offensive exploits that carried Punahou. “The kids performed really well. They played with discipline. Kamehameha’s very athletic with a big offensive line, good receivers, athletic quarterback, so we’re proud of the kids and the way they played,” Punahou […]
